Susan Marie McFarland

Jan 17, 1953 – Aug 20, 2009

Susan Marie McFarland (nee: Gordon) gracefully passed away Thursday, in her home the evening of August 20th, 2009. At the moment of her death she was lovingly surrounded by her husband Jamie, son Jerrod and daughter Lisa. Sue’s journey with cancer began 8 years ago; it encompassed much of her life but never defined it. First and foremost was her faith; researching, teaching and living it. Secondly, but no less important, were her 6 grandchildren: Aaron LeGath, Sam, Maddy and Chase McFarland, Eleanor and Sully Brieske. Because of her kindness she also held the title of Grandma Sue to many others throughout the years. Among her many accomplishments: she was a well studied pianist, a pilot, an excellent second-mate, and an entrepreneur. She loved golfing, traveling, gardening and giving. Her smile was contagious and her love was as big as life. Sue is survived by her husband Jamie, and their children Jerrod and spouse Michelle (nee: Herman) and her daughter Lisa and spouse Joel Brieske. Her six grand children, listed above and her loving sister and best friend Vicki Sell, husband Jeff and their two children Kristen and Cory. Many cared for her through out her years dealing with cancer, mainly oncologist Dr. Michael Mullane, and too many to thank individually, but we are certain you know who you are and hope to someday have the chance to express our gratitude in person. A funeral service honoring and remembering Sue’s life will take place at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church (1700 S. Green Bay Rd.) on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. with Rev. Kara F. Baylor officiating. There will be a visitation in the church on Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. Sue had requested memorials in her honor be sent to Hospice Alliance and Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church. Thank you; we are forever changed by the sentiment expressed throughout this time.

Sue was an incredible person. She was such a positive “chemo mate” during my cancer treatment and I’m not sure how well I’d be today had it not been for her gentle and compassionate friendship. For that, I’m eternally grateful. Even though we didn’t see each other a lot, when she did see me, she was as loving with me as I’ve seen her be with so many others. Not many folks can do that.

I will honor and cherish Sue as a person put into my life through God’s amazing plan for my life. I will never forget her.

Testimonials

Comfort, blessed and confident

I can’t say enough good things about Michael and his staff. They go above and beyond what is required of a funeral home. He has always met my desires and goes beyond what I ask. He always makes it a little more special. He has blessed me and my family many times and comforted us when we are aching because of our loss. I am always confident that he will do his very best, and he always has.
Thank you Michael and staff. May you all have a Blessed Christmas season and New Year
