Jeanette Louise Verhaeghe

Aug 2, 1923 – Sep 25, 2009

Mt. Pleasant – Jeanette Louise Verhaeghe, 86, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Friday, September 25, 2009. She was born on August 2, 1923, daughter of the late Chris and Rose (nee: Nielsen) Agerholm. Jeanette was a lifetime Racine resident, and graduated from Washington Park High School in 1941. On September 9, 1944 she was married to Robert C. Verhaeghe in St. Edward’s Rectory.

Jeanette was a very devoted wife, mother, and homemaker for her family. Her caring nature carried over to her volunteer work with Meal on Wheels, Woods Hospital, Lincoln Lutheran, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and tutoring children with their reading. Jeanette was very proud of her brother, Harold Agerholm, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extreme sacrifice during WWII.

Jeanette is survived by her faithful husband, Robert Verhaeghe of Mt. Pleasant and their 5 loving children; Patricia (Gilbert) Paar of Racine, Jeffrey (Patty) Verhaeghe of Sheboygan, Jane (Eric) Schumann, John (Sue) Verhaeghe both of Racine, and Judy (Terry) Vance of Scottsdale, Arizona; 13 dear grandchildren; Tony (Audrey West), Kendra (Kurt Korth), Sarah (Jim Burns), Neil, Benjamin, Rebecca, Lizzy, Andy, Riley, Spencer, Leah, Ty, and Kelly; 3 great-grandchildren; Kate, Lauren, and Amelia; and her sister, Joan Dawson of Racine. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Frances Jones, her brother Robert Agerholm and sister Margaret Merril.

In keeping with her wishes, private services were held on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Memorials in her memory have been suggested to the Marine Corps League Auxiliary, or to your favorite charity.
