Arlene Ruth Covan

Mar 10, 1936 – Nov 13, 2009

Racine – Arlene R. (nee: Funk, Rizzo) Covan, 73, passed away peacefully in the surroundings of her family at Ridgewood Care Center on Friday evening, November 13, 2009. A lifetime resident, Arlene was born in Racine on March 10, 1936 to the late Leo and Mary (nee: Kapplehoff) Funk. As a young adult, she was united in marriage with Robert Rizzo. Years later, Arlene married George Covan, who preceded her in death on May 23, 2003. During her career, Arlene had been employed by Precise, Moxness and Motor Specialty. However, being a homemaker was her favorite vocation. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church. Among her interests, she enjoyed sewing and cooking. Arlene loved nothing more than being in the midst of her entire family. Surviving are her daughter, Julie (David) Kupper of Union Grove; son, John “Toby” Rizzo of Pewaukee; grandchildren, Michelle and Matthew Kupper; brothers, Arthur and Leo Funk; dear friend from Ridgewood, Bill Ludwig; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including her Ridgewood family, too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Funk Therese; and brother, Larry Funk. Funeral services will be held at Ridgewood Care Center, 3205 Wood Road, on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 3 pm with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Private entombment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Ridgewood on Thursday from 2:15 – 3:00 pm. Memorials to Ridgewood Care Center has been suggested. A heartfelt note of thanks to the entire staff at Ridgewood Care Center for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly extended during these past 15 years of our Mom’s life. May God bless all of you!
