Bill A. West, Sr.

Bill A. West, Sr. 65, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 3, 2010.

   He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on January, 13 1945 to the late Willie and Willie Mae (nee: Walker) West. He moved to Racine in 1965 and worked in the manufacturing industry for over 25 years.

   Bill was a dedicated and hard worker. He retired from Jacobsen Manufacturing in the 1990s and opened West Appliance, Inc., a business that has been in the Racine community for nearly 20 years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, playing and coaching basketball, and spending time with his family and friends. Bill accepted Christ at an early age.

   He is survived by his wife, Classie West; two brothers, Raymond West of Kenosha and Alvin (Jimmie Ann) West of Racine; three sisters, Ella Mae Brown, Barbara West, and Cynthia Jackson, all of Racine; In 1963, Bill  A. West  Sr. married his first wife Ollie (nee: Livingston ) West.  In later years, they divorced.  From this union, they had four children: Troy (Tina) West of Calumet City, IL., Donna West of Calumet City, IL., Bill A. West, Jr., of Racine, LaVel West of Calumet City, IL., In addition, Bill is survived by his children, Yolanda Hodges of Memphis, TN., Marcus West of Racine, and Angelique (William) Lewis of Milwaukee; his stepchildren, Adrena (Felix) Rogers of Indianapolis, IN., Derrick (Stephanie) Jamison of Memphis, TN., and Anwar (Toshiba) Jamison of Memphis, TN.; his grandchildren, Ivan, Torell, Gamayel, Troi, Maaliyah, DeLan, Asirah, Cedric, Aredious, DeJanae, Derrick Jr., Darius, Nicholas, Saige, Amari, and Adrena; his great grandchildren, Nia, Navi, and Cameron; his mother-in-law, Odesser Knuckles; eleven sister-in-laws and fourteen brother-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncles, James and Jack Newson; and his niece, Toni West.

 

    Family and friends are invited to meet at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. for the celebration of his life and Homegoing with Rev. J. Mark Freeman officiating.  Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.  There will be a visitation in the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. -12:00 p.m.

Words cannot even begin to express the tremendous gratitude our family has for a team like the one at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory. Thank you for the gentle lovely care over our mother Delia (Rosa) Balderas. Never having had a direct experience with a funeral home to this extent we didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t have a clue that they would step right in and have the most comforting team surrounding us that thought of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for anyone in our position. It was very evident from the first discussion on the phone that they were already well prepared to handle every little detail for us that we weren’t even aware would be required. Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didn’t stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.
