Beverly Joyce Makoveck, 82, of Racine, WI, passed away peacefully at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Nancy James, in Pleasant Prairie, WI, on Wednesday, July 7, 2010.

Born March 7th, 1928, in Norway, Michigan to her parents, Irving R. and Gladys (Hinds) Learned.  At six months of age, Beverly and her family moved to Racine, WI, where she and her older brother Irving (Dick) were raised.  Educated in the schools of Racine, she graduated from Washington Park High School in 1946.  She worked in the early part of her life in the office of Gorton Machine Co., and later at Arthur and Kathryn Murray Dance Studios as a dance instructor, and also at Furniture Factory Co. in Kenosha, WI as a bookkeeper.  In 1947, she married Michael P. James, in Racine, WI;  they later were divorced.  In 1968, Beverly married Fred Makoveck in Kenosha, WI.  She was a member of Sweet Adeline’s singing group of Kenosha.  After retirement she and Fred moved to Roswell, NM, and were active in many local groups including the Roswell Senior Citizens Activities Center.  Beverly and Fred returned to Wisconsin in 2005 after enjoying more than sixteen years of retirement in Roswell.  Her many interests throughout her life were sewing, knitting, singing, dancing, traveling, keeping her yard looking beautiful, working her many crossword puzzles, and enjoying her entire family and friends.

She was a loving wife and mother and is greatly missed and survived by her loving husband Fred and children: daughter Karen (David) Ficker (James) of Ashburn, VA; sons Kelvin James, Kevin (Nancy) James, all of Pleasant Prairie, WI; daughter Kimberly (Jim) Rein (Makoveck), of Denver, CO, Kandace (John) Lennartz, of Rochester, WI.  Grandchildren: Pamela Ficker, Mackenzie Ficker; Ava Lennartz; and Kilian Lennartz.  Also, her special kitty companions: Peppy, Sasha, and Cupcake, who left their loving paw prints on her heart.  In addition, she is survived by her niece, Lucille (Randy Dahms) Skala of Sturtevant, WI; great nephew Josh Skala of Surtevant, WI; sister-in-law Irene Lawler of Pleasant Prairie, WI; and many other special relatives and friends.   Preceding her in death were her parents, Irving R. and Gladys Learned; Brother Irving (Dick) Learned, and his wife, Norma Learned.

Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, July 12th at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.
