Reba L. Griffin

Jan 11, 1945 – Aug 8, 2010

Reba L. Griffin (nee: Edwards), 65, passed away at her residence on Sunday, August 8, 2010.

She was born January 11, 1945 daughter of Via E. Smith and Willie J. Edwards in Tupelo, MS. 

Reba accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 9 and joined Kimble Chapel Baptist Church.  At age of 11 her family moved to Olive Branch, MS and she united with the Mt. Pighah Baptist Church.  She attended East Side High School in Olive Branch, MS graduation in 1964.  In June of 1964 she attended Mississippi Valley State College in Atta Bena, MS for 2 years.  In 1966 she moved to Racine, WI and attended Racine Vocational School for 1 year.  After moving to Racine she joined Greater Mt. Eagle Missionary Baptist Church.   She became a very active member of the Usher Board both state and national.  She held president of the GMEBC ushers, State supervisor assistant, State Supervisor, National Sarg-at-arm, Young Adult Art and Craft chair person and Historian Young Adult.  In January of 1970 she started working for AMC, then Chrysler Corporation, for 30 years and retired January 1, 2000.  She was a member of Local 74 and served on the Election Committee and the Women Active Committee and as a clerk.

Reba leaves to cherish her memories her husband Floyd Griffin, Four brothers Henry (Rhonda), Robert (Patricia), Oliver Curtis (Mary), Rufus (Merchelle) Venzant of Racine and Donnie Edwards of Mississippi.  Two sisters Monica (Ricky Finley) Dixon of Racine, WI and Bessie of Belden, MS.  Two step-sisters Lula Williams and Diana Moore, three step-brother Sam, Odie and Willie Moore of AK.  An aunt she was reared with as a sister Corine (Charles) Brown, a cousin she was reared with as a sister Georgia Mae Smith, one uncles, as brothers and Rufus (Gwen) Scott, three uncles Nathaniel (Louise) Smith of Racine, WI, Heron (Helen) Edwards and Herman Edwards of Belden, MS.  Four Aunts Pinkie Smith of Racine, WI, Bessie (Sam) Thorton, Helen (James) Robinson and Geraldine Green all of Mississippi.  Her father Willie James Edwards of CA.  Three step-children Jaunita (Dennis) Hardin, Marvin and Marcus Griffin of Racine, WI.  God children D’Angelo, Marshawn, Kyra, Domonique, Teyaka, Kimberly, Ivyanna, Kenneth Moody, Renita Jean.  Special cousins Leatrice, Daisy, Brenda, Krystal, Denice, Ricky and Bernard.  Special friends Rosie Hicks, Deacon & Sister Daniels and Andrea Tucker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to numerous to mention.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Via Moore, step fathers Robert Venzant and Willie Moore, grandmother Daisy Scott and Lessie Edwards, grandfathers Nathaniel Smith, Charles Edwards and Rufus Scott.  Sister Margaret Ann, niece Keachie Venzant and two great niece three aunts and four uncles.

   Family and friends are invited to meet at Greater Mount Eagle Missionary Baptist Church (920 State St.) on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. for the celebration of her life and Homegoing with Rev. Keith Evans officiating.  There will be a visitation in the church on Friday from 9-11 a.m. Her burial will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery.
