
Racine- Mrs. Petra Paredes, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday morning, August 21, 2010. Petrawas born in San Antonio, Texas on January 31, 1927 to the late Teodoro and Monica (nee: Rangel) Rodriguez, moving to Racine in 1945. With a profound work ethic, Petra had been employed by Wisco Battery, Ametek and Moxness Products, from where she retired in 1997 after 25 years of service. A true Christian woman with a devoted Catholic faith, Petra was a faithful member and volunteer of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Among her interests, she was an avid rose gardener, enjoyed sewing and needlepoint, loved to cook for her family and prayed the Rosary everyday. Above all, Petra treasured being together with her entire family. Surviving are her children, Guadalupe (Paul) Castaneda, Joseph (Elsa) Ponce Sr., Monica (Martin Sr.) Lascon and Cruz Paredes; grandchildren, Tammie, Joey, Eddie (Kathy) and Jeffery (Amy) Castaneda; Joseph Ponce Jr.; Mersedes, Michelle, Martin Jr. and Jose Lascon; and Santos (Saralyn) Paredes; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Austin and Elizabeth Tuttle; Haylee, Lauren, Amanda, Megan, Sofia and Gabrielle Castaneda; Marlo Perez; Alberto M. Rodriguez; Ryann A. and Paitynn P. Paredes; sisters, Maria Martinez, Angie “Hela” Chacon, Juana Esquival, Rosa (Miguel) Maldonado, Monica (Manuel) Reyna, Dolores Rodriguez and Ortensia Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Ramon (Yolanda) Paredes; sister-in-law, Evelia Nava; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention all by name. In addition to her parents, Petra was preceded in death by her husbands, Jose Ponce on June 23, 1952 and Santos Paredes, Sr. on December 16, 1985; son, Santos Paredes Jr.; and brothers, Jose Guadalupe Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez and Santos Rodriguez. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 11 am in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones and Rev. Pablo Cirujeda officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm (Rosary at 7pm) and in the church on Thursday from 10-11 am. A special note of thanks to Dr. Richard N. Odders, Dr. Jerry M. Hardacre and Hospice Alliance (especially Veronica) for the compassionate care that was given to our Mother in her time of need.
