
Racine – Nancy (nee: Luedtke) Kupper Hartfield Benzow, 74, passed away on August 29, 2010. She was born in Racine on June 17, 1936, daughter & 5th child of the late Herman C. and Johanna H. (nee: Kokke) Luedtke. She was a graduate of the Union Grove High School Class of 1953. August 29, 1964 she was united in marriage to Eugene G. Kupper, who preceded her in death on January 7, 1995. She subsequently married Donald R. Hartfield on July 27, 1996, who preceded her in death on November 13, 2001. She subsequently married Roland A. Benzow, Sr. on June 16, 2006.
She was a member of St. Richard Church She had been employed by the State of Wisconsin for 42 years, lastly at Southern Wisconsin Center from which she retired in 1996. She lived in the Union Grove area until she moved to Racine in 1996. She was well known in the area for baking and distributing her “Kupper Buns” which she shared generously with anyone and everyone! Her smile and the twinkle in her eyes will be forever treasured and missed.
Surviving are her husband, Roland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy (Donna) Kupper of Coral Gables, Florida and David (Julie) Kupper, Union Grove; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen (Craig) Kodanko, Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Meagan and Jordan Kupper, Coral Gables, FL; Michelle and Matthew Kupper, Union Grove; and Riki, Kory, Casey and Kerry Kodanko, Green Bay; six step-sons Jerry (Lori) Kupper, Racine; Dale (Davia) Hartfield, Waterford; John (Donna) Benzow, Racine; Rollie Jr. (Tammy) Benzow, Racine; James Benzow, Scottsdale, AZ; eight step-daughter Denise (Robert) Wettengel, Oak Creek; Darlene Wagen, Mascoutah, IL; Pam (Jim) Cremer, Racine; Glenna (Ron) Ensweiler, Dallas, TX; Paula (Herb) Meyer, Racine; Holly (Philip) Pittner, Sheboygan; Susan (Bill) Dumovich, Racine; Kellie (Leif) Haugland, Plymouth, MN; twenty-one step-grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren.
She is further survived by seven brothers and eight sisters-in-law and five sisters and four brothers-in-law, (Ruby) Luedtke, Neillsville; Richard (Sandra) Luedtke, Racine; Lucille Naber (Jim) Frederick, Union grove; Donald (Jackie) Luedtke, Union Grove; Kathleen (Jack) Trautman, Abbotsford; Paul (Maria) Luedtke, Kenosha; Henry (Jane) Luedtke, Union Grove; Linda Smith, Richland Center; Marlene (Larry) Blaney, Union Grove; Kurt (Janice) Luedtke, Caledonia; Walter (Jamie) Luedtke, Burlington; Ruthann (Jim) Rehberg, Phillips; and Robert (Chris) Luedtke, Union Grove; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and special friends.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Luedtke; brother Herman A. Luedtke; brothers-in-law, Arthur Naber and Mel Smith; niece, Luann Naber Uttech; nephew, Kurt Luedtke; and step-son, Donald Keith Hartfield.
Funeral services will be held at St. Richard Church (1503 Grand Avenue) on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ron Gramza officiating. Visitation will be held at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Monday, August 30th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and then Tuesday in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia immediately following the service. Memorial donations can be made in memory of Nancy Benzow to LAH Special Needs Trust Fund which is for her step-grand daughter Lucy Ann Haugland (c/o Kellie Benzow, 11911-18th Ave. N. Plymouth, MN 55441), St. Richard Church, Racine (general donation fund), or your charity of choice.
Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and others who have cared for Nancy. A special thanks to the Wheaton Franciscan Hospice staff, Dr. Michael Mullane, Dr. Robert Gullberg, Karla Boho and their staffs, and Dr. Stoltenberg. The family also extends special appreciation to Bethany Zimpel, who took such good care of Nancy during her illness.
