Virginia I. Steimle

Oct 10, 1921 – Nov 27, 2010

Mrs. Virginia I. Steimle died at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Saturday, November 27, 2010.

She was born in Racine on October 10, 1921, the daughter of Walter and Rose (nee: Behrend) Larsen.  She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1939.  On November 8, 1952, she married Eugene F. Steimle.  He preceded her in death on October 28, 1990.

Virginia worked at Ann’s Smart Wear in West Racine for many years.  She was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church where she participated in the Altar Sodality and the Daughters of Isabelle.  Ginny loved nature and the outdoors and always enjoyed tending her flowers and bird watching.  She was happiest however when she was surrounded by her family, and that love of family lives within each of them.

Her survivors include her children, Mark (Meg) Steimle of Wauwatosa, Gordon (Becky) Steimle of Milwaukee, Lance (Jan) Steimle of Racine; grandchildren, Jonathan, Elise, Christopher and Adam Steimle; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Steimle, Marcella (Charles) Knotek both of Racine; as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Romayne (Phil) Gavigan and Leone March.

The celebration of Virginia’s life and funeral mass will be held at St. Edward Catholic Church (1401 Grove Ave.) on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating.  Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia.  There will be a visitation at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and in the church on Saturday from 9-10 a.m.  Memorials have been suggested to either St. Edward Catholic School or the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Steimle family wishes to extend a very warm thank you to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice for the professional and loving care that was extended to their mother and grandmother while under their care.
