Cecil Wainwright, Sr.

Aug 23, 1930 – Mar 4, 2011

Racine- Cecil Wainwright, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 4, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer.  

Cecil was born in Stonewall, Miss. On August 23, 1930 to the late Oliver and Alice (nee: Manning) Wainwright. On September 25, 1954 he was united in marriage with Elnora (nee: McCray) Wainwright.

 Cecil was employed by American Motors and Belle City Malleable. He enjoyed fishing, tending to his beautiful garden and trying his luck at the track. 

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Elnora; their children, Ethel (Cleveland Jr.) Scaife; Cecil Jr., Julie, Jerry, Edward and Michael Wainwright; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Healy and Carrie (Ester) Davis; sisters-in-law, Luella Wainwright, Ruby Arrington and Terry Newburn; brothers-in-law, Robert (Ernestine) McCray and Charles McCray; devoted friends, John Goodwin, Benny Goodwin and Ted Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.  

In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his sisters, Alma Jean Overstreet, Ora Lee Portis and Carolyn Hand; and brothers, Oliver Jr., Roosevelt and Edsel Wainwright, and Eugene Ray.

 A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11:00 in Searching Together Missionary Baptist Church, 825 – 21st Street, with Rev. Willie Riley officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 pm and in the church on Friday from 10-11 am.
