Sterling Lucas Whitt

Oct 4, 1930 – Jul 4, 2011

Racine- Sterling Lucas Whitt, 80, passed away at his home, surrounded with the love of his family, on Monday, July 4, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sterling was born in Panther, West Virginia on October 4, 1930 to the late Clifford and Pearlie (nee: Cline) Whitt. He lived in Racine since 1964.

Sterling was employed by the J.I. Case Co. for over 25 years, retiring in 1991. He was an accomplished musician, who could play the fiddle like nobody else, and loved playing in the family band. Among his interests, he enjoyed playing horseshoes, camping, watching baseball, and keeping his family amused with his stories and jokes. Sterling will be remembered as a simple man who loved being in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his children, Timothy (Sue) Street Sr., Donna Anderson, David (Cheryl) Street, Marvin Dale (Debra) Street and Oliver Leon (Jean) Street; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren…..and still counting; sisters, Valice Whitt and Jean Whitt; brother, Royce (MaryLou) Whitt; second set of grandchildren, Ashley, Amy, Junior, Austin and Audrena; special singers, Sherri Lynne and Kassie; numerous camping buddies, Kevin and Brenda, Larry and Bobby Jo, Paul and Audrey, Billy and Cindy, and all their families; and by many nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends too numerous to mention all by name.

In addition to his parents, Sterling was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Chloey (nee: Street) Whitt on April 20, 1989; children, Pauline, Arlene, Ernest, Edward and Ruth; sister, Genieva McGuire; and brother, Gathern Whitt.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 9:30 am in Taylor Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2100 Taylor Avenue, with Rev. Wilson Deaton officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 6 – 8 pm and in the church on Friday from 8:30-9:30 am.

A heartfelt note of thanks to the entire staff of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints, especially 2ndfloor; and to Wheaton Hospice, especially the devoted nurses, for the compassionate care and support given to Sterling in his time of need.

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)

Valerie Tucker and the Family of Barbara Bell
