Racine – Leona Margaret Sattler, 91, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. She was born in Reedsburg on January 14, 1920, daughter of the late Louis and Violet (nee: Weir) Parchem. Leona was a Racine resident for most of her life. She was married in Holy Communion Church on September 11, 1945 to Herbert R. Sattler.
Leona worked at Hamilton Beach as a young woman, and later in life at McGraw Edison, but her calling in life was that of being a wife and mother. She took great pride in keeping her home clean and organized. Leona loved to go dancing with her husband, Herb, often on Friday night’s at Vance’s. After her children, Leona’s pride and joy were her cars, which she cared for as if they too were her children.
She is survived by her children, Linda Schwartz of Racine, and Paul Sattler of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Austin Schwartz of Racine, and Sydney Sattler of Seattle; brothers, Robert Parchem of Delafield, Gordon (Ann) Parchem, Gene (Marcy) Parchem, and Norman Parchem all of Baraboo; sister-in-law, Ada Sattler of Racine; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her husband, Herb, preceded her in death.
A memorial service for Leona will be held at 1:30 pm. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, with Rev. Dr. Warren D. Williams officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be private. Memorials in Leona’s name to the Disabled American Veterans have been suggested.
We would like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Care Center, where Leona was so affectionately called “Peanut”, for the love and compassionate care provided to Leona and her family.
