Josef Ludwig

Dec 21, 1954 – Jan 2, 2012

Racine – Josef “Sepp” Ludwig, 82, entered into eternal life on Monday, January 2, 2012.  He was born in Bernsdorf, Germany, on November 12, 1929, son of the late Josef and Anna (nee: Baier) Ludwig.  Josef was United in Marriage to the love of his life, Marlene Seeger, in Einbeck, Germany on December 21, 1954.

Sepp and Marlene came to the United States on December 7, 1957.  He was a cabinet maker for 26 years for Christensen Woodworking (formerly Racine Wood Products).  Sepp had a lifelong love of the game of soccer.  He was a member of the Racine Soccer Association and was a player on the 1967 Championship team.  After his years of playing soccer, he remained a fan and a coach in the association for years to come.  He loved to watch the World Cup on television and always rooted for his favorite team, Deutschland.  Sepp was a Member of Deutscher Männer Verein (German Club) in Racine since 1960.  He could always be found playing Sheepshead on Thursday nights.  Sepp was adored by all who loved and knew him.  He will be dearly missed.

Sepp leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Marlene Ludwig of Racine; daughter, Cindy (Kevin) Hanson of Racine; granddaughter, Sandra Hanson of Racine; great-grandchildren, Ruben Munoz, Alexis Anderson, Isabela Castaneda, all of Racine; sisters-in-law, Lisa Ludwig, Marion Ludwig, both of Racine; nieces, nephews, and other family too numerous to mention.  In addition to his parents, Sepp is preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Ludwig, Gerhard “Jerry” Ludwig, Alfred Ludwig; sisters, Gertrude (Gerd) Baye and Hildegard Ludwig.

A Funeral Service for Sepp will take place on Friday, January 6, 2012, 2pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Road, with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  Visitation will be from 1pm until the time of the service.  Entombment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt “Thank You” to the staff of the Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.  Your love and care of Sepp during his illness will never be forgotten.  God bless you all!
