Elaine E. Pope

     Elaine Elstad Pope, 87, passed away at her residence, where she wanted to be, on Friday, January 20, 2012.  She was born in Whitehall, WI on September 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Hartvig “Hockey” and Hazel (nee: Gilbertson) Elstad.

     During WWII Elaine was employed by the Department of the Navy, in Washington D.C. On October 5, 1946, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in Whitehall, she was united in marriage to the Carl S. Pope, who preceded her in death on December 21, 1985. The Popes moved to Racine in 1967. Elaine retired from Twin Disc in 1990.

     Mrs. Pope was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Circus Fans of America, the Circus World Museum, the Washington Park Bowleretts and Golf Club.

     Surviving are her daughters, Lynn (David) Polke, of Archer, FL, Jan (Lance) Steimle, and Carol (Kevin) Rannow, all of Racine; grandchildren Alex Rannow, Eric Rannow and Jessica Polke, and by her special friends Pat and Bill Dexter.

    Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home, at 7:00 p.m., on Monday, January 23rd, with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Private burial services will be held in the Lincoln Cemetery, Whitehall, WI, on Tuesday.

The family has suggested memorials to the Carl S. Pope Memorial Fund for the Racine Municipal Band.
