UNION GROVE – Monica May Svendsen, 74, passed away comfortably and peacefully at All Saints Medical Center on Sunday February 19, 2012, surrounded by her loving children.
Monica was born in Racine on May 6, 1937, to the late Francis and Cecelia (nee: Hegeman) Zenner. On September 1, 1956, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gordon Edward Svendsen. Monica attended Saint Catherine’s High School and lived in Racine most of her life before moving to Union Grove in 2006.
Monica’s greatest role in life was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Prior to her retirement, she was most recently employed by Racine Federated. Besides her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Monica’s favorite past times were traveling with her husband; playing cribbage and sheepshead, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and proudly watching her two grandsons play for the Racine Raiders. Above all, Monica loved being in the company of her family and friends. Surviving are her children, Gordon (Terri) Svendsen Jr. and Elizabeth 'Liz' Kauffman; grandchildren, Chad (Katie) Svendsen and Dustin Svendsen; great-grandchildren, Jaden and Mason Svendsen, Austin Svendsen, and Ethan Rafel, all of Union Grove; brother Donald (Ruth) Zenner, sister Frances Pivek; and brothers-in-law, Richard Svendsen Sr. and Lloyd Thornton. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and too many friends to mention by name. In addition to her parents, Monica was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Gordon; Gordon’s parents Peter and Minnie Svendsen, her son-in-law Jack Kauffman; a brother-in-law Richard Pivek Sr.; sisters-in-law Verdonna (Marty) Kosiba, Gloria (Dave) Norby, and Karen Thornton.
