Lula Mae Rogers

Feb 8, 1942 – Mar 19, 2012

Racine – Lula Mae Rogers, 70, was born to eternal life on March 19, 2012. She was born in Greensboro, Alabama on February 8, 1942, daughter of the late Enoch and Willie Mae (nee: Woods) Long, Sr. Shortly after graduating from the Hale County Training School she moved to Racine where she enjoyed a long career in retail sales. She began working at Racine Office Supply, and later held positions at Carson Pierre Scott, S & K Menswear, and Sears where she retired.

Lula enjoyed traveling with friends, SHOPPING, and keeping up-to-date with the latest trends in fashion and makeup. She was a true “people person” who felt that a stranger was just a friend she hadn’t met yet. Most of all she loved her family. It was important to her for everyone to gather on a regular basis to share a meal, laugh together, and keep the family bonds strong.

Lula is survived by her devoted son, Ricky Rogers; three brothers, Enoch (Joyce) Long Jr., Moses (Sue) Long, and Robert (Pamela) Long; four sisters, Eva Mae (Harry) Jones, Annie Long, Rosa Lee Long-Davies, and Barbara (David) Griggs; three aunts, Eliza Woods, Annie Woods, and Mittie Mayfield; special nieces, LaToya Long, and Antoinette Benison and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Richardson, Ruth Owens, and Isabella Benison; and uncles, Joseph Woods, Albert Woods, and Rev. E.E. Woods, Jr.

Homegoing celebration will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012, 11:00am, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church (11thSt.and Grand Ave.) with Bishop L.L. Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be in the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4pm – 6pm, and in the church on Monday beginning at 10am.

Special Thanks to the staff at Washington Manor, and United Hospital System – Kenosha.

Lula's family has selected their floral arrangements from Signature Flowers by Randy. If you would like to send flowers, please consider calling them at (262) 633-4890.

Testimonials

From a daughter

My parents told me of your kindness, generosity, and servitude when we lost my brother. They needed that strength and your light came through. Thank you.
