Beatrice J. Houtz, 91, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, May 28, 2012, with her family and care givers at her side. Bea was born in Somers on November 15, 1920, the oldest daughter of the late J. Henry and Dagmar (nee: Christensen) Buechner.

On August 15, 1942, in Atonement Lutheran Church, Racine, she was united in marriage to Charles Houtz who preceded her in death on December 6, 1996. Bea graduated from the Racine-Kenosha County Teacher’s College in Union Grove, WI.  She later served as the Somers Postmaster for over 22 years.

Surviving are her children, David (Elizabeth “Betty”) Houtz and Janet Houtz, all of Somers; and her granddaughter, Jennifer (R.J.) Fergus, of Racine. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Michelle (Fred) Kellner and her sisters Beverly (Leon) Dreger and Joyce (Thomas) Cronin.

Her funeral service will be held in the Somers Community United Church of Christ, 9918-12th St., Somers, on Friday, June 1st, at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow in Oakwood Cemetery at highways 31 and 12th Street in Kenosha County.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Health Care Network (HCN)

(904 State Street, Racine, WI 53404) are suggested. Specify memorials to Greater Racine Mammogram Coalition at HCN to help uninsured and underinsured women who have not had a mammogram in two years.

A special “thank you” and much love to caregivers Jennifer and Christine.

Our sympathy to Janet and David and family! I was there visiting with your Mom just 4 weeks ago and so glad! She gave me a kiss “goodbye”! We had been good neighbors for over 50 years. Her and Mom now can discuss the neighborhood.

Testimonials

Last warm-hearted care of our mother

Words cannot even begin to express the tremendous gratitude our family has for a team like the one at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory. Thank you for the gentle lovely care over our mother Delia (Rosa) Balderas. Never having had a direct experience with a funeral home to this extent we didnt know what to expect. We didnt have a clue that they would step right in and have the most comforting team surrounding us that thought of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for anyone in our position. It was very evident from the first discussion on the phone that they were already well prepared to handle every little detail for us that we weren’t even aware would be required. Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didnt stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.
