RACINE — Marjorie (Marge) Lucille Bogus, 95, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Ridgewood Care Center. Marge was born in Racine on June 12, 1917, to Adam and Antonia (nee: Gerbel) Bires. She was united in marriage to Anthony (Tony) Donald Bogus on July 4, 1942 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church by Rev. Stephen Labai. On July 4, 2012, Tony and Marge celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They always attributed their successful marriage to love, teamwork, mutual respect and honesty with each other.
Marge graduated from Washington Park High School, Class of 1936. She was a secretary at J. I. Case Company and later at Moxness Products. She met her future husband, Tony, at a dance at Uptown Village in 1935. Their first date was to see a movie at the Venetian Theater. Tony proposed to Marge on April 19, 1942, the same day he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Marquette University. Marge was a former member of the Kenosha Country Club, Racine Women’s Club, Slovak Ladies Jednota Society, and volunteered at the Girl Scouts of America. She is currently a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are her devoted husband, Tony, and three loving daughters: Kathryn (Sherman James) Foertsch of Racine, Karen (Carl) Gosewehr of Hartland, WI, and Mary Ellen (Ken) Gardner of Hot Springs Village, AR. Grandchildren are Lara (Hank) Ehrsam, Toni (Daniel) Flesch, Eric (Connie) Gardner, Dana (Renato) Gilberti, Bobi (Daniel) Komer. Great grandchildren are Malin Erhsam, Thomas Erhsam, Samuel Erhsam, Kaylin Flesch, Conner Flesch, Sydney Flesch, Steven Gardner, Ava Gardner, Colin Gardner, Peyton Komer, Mia Komer, and Isabella Gilberti. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Gertrude (Cary) Waldoch, Mary Dewhurst, Anne (Jackopac) Bires, and brother Joseph Bires.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family AT THE CHURCH on Friday, July 20 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to St. Lucy’s Catholic Church Education Fund.
The family extends a heartfelt note of thanks to loving and caring neighbors, Reverend Mark Jones of St. Lucy’s Parish, James Mataczynski M.D., and to the staffs at both Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints and Ridgewood Care Center – East Wing.
