Marie Anderson

Aug 21, 1926 – Aug 13, 2012

Marie (nee: Hardaway) Anderson, Age 85 entered into eternal life on Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at Wheaton Franciscan in Racine, WI.

Marie was born in Enterprise, Mississippi on August 21, 1926 to the late Mayso and Mackie (nee: Price) Hardaway.  She was the third born and last surviving of nine children; two girls and seven boys.  Marie attended grade school in the Enterprise School System.  After graduating from eight grade she moved to Meridian, MS. to live with her dearest cousin Louemma (nee: Hardaway) Whitlock, where she completed her High School education at T.J. Harris High School.  After high school Marie and her Aunt Katie Mae Hardaway – Heidelburg began commuting to Barnett, MS. to teach Veteran classes until Marie met and married the late John S. Barnett and they moved to Barnett, MS.

Several years later Marie returned to the Enterprise community and worked various jobs while pursuing her Cosmetology license under the internship of her cousin Fannie Hardaway-Harrison.  She was later employed as a licensed cosmetologist at Southern Beauty Shop in Meridian, Ms.  She relocated to Racine, Wisconsin in 1962 where she was united in Holy Matrimony to Albert Henry Anderson and to this union one son was born; Jeffrey James Anderson.

Marie grew up in Zion Hill Baptist Church in Enterprise, MS.  After moving to Racine she united with Second Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Mack C. Davis where she served faithfully in the Willing Workers and Pastor’s Aide Clubs until her health began to fail.

Marie worked outside of the home at the Cove School, Westview Nursing Home and later retired from Modine Manufacturing Co. after nearly 28 years.  She worked long and hard for many years but her first priority was always God and her family.  She enjoyed cooking (especially baking), watching old movies and more than anything just spending time with her family.

Our mother and grandmother, Marie, leaves us to cherish her many precious memories her daughter, Johnnie M. Jones; son, Jeffrey J. Anderson Sr., both of Racine; granddaughters, Cassandra Rani Jones of Racine and Shennell Rowe – Anderson of Atlanta, GA; grandson, Jeffrey Anderson Jr. and one great-grandson, Darien Hutcherson both of Racine;  she is also survived by sister-in-laws, Jessie Pearl Hardaway of Savoy, MS; Ella Mae Hardaway of Meridian, MS. and Dr. Joyce Frazier-Hardaway of Cleveland, OH; one broter-in-law Arthur Anderson of Brooklyn, NY and many other nieces, nephews and special friends.  Marie was preceded in death by her parents Mayso and Mackie Hardaway; Her husband for nearly fifty years Albert H. Anderson, her only sister, Callie Mae(nee: Hardaway) Murry, seven brothers, Albert(A.C.), Edward, Martin, Howard, Charles, Andrew and Woodrow Hardaway; one granddaughter, Jessica Marie Anderson.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 17, 2102, 4pm until 7pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012, in Enterprise, Mississippi.

Marie’s generation has been silenced on earth but they will forever live in our hearts.

Testimonials

Funeral

The funeral service was just beautiful and very warming to everyone including my family. All the pictures they did and the employees were just fantastic. This is one funeral home I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to feel comfortable and to be treated like family. I can’t say enough good things because it was just such a warm welcome. Thank you to Mark and Mike. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
