
Kenosha– Shirley F. (nee: Mathis) Armstrong, 66, passed away at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee on Wednesday, October 3, 2012.
Born in Alamo, TN on December 23, 1945 and moved to Kenosha at age 5. A retiree of American Motors / Chrysler, she was a lifetime member of Second Baptist Church where she proudly sang in the choir “Voices of SBC”; enjoyed cooking, ceramics and dancing; and absolutely loved being in the surroundings of her entire family.
Surviving are her husband, Louis L. Armstrong; daughter, Iris Mathis; sons, Lee and Marty Mathis; step-sons, Sheldon Dennis and Louis Armstrong, Jr.; granddaughter, NaQuisha Franklin; step-granddaughter, Jayla Mae Armstrong; grandsons, Markece McCovery, Christopher Mathis and Javari Lee Mathis; step-grandsons, Carter Armstrong and Mason Armstrong; sisters, Barbara Mathis, Betty (Joseph) Jones and Linda Vanessa Gary; dear friend, Mrs. Fannie Doss; cousin / best-friend, Minister Ora M. Conley; other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by mother, Corean (nee: Conley) Mathis-Gary; father, William Charles Mathis; sister, Diane Neal; and brothers, Antony Gary, William and Melvin Mathis.
In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Shirley’s Homegoing will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 11:00 am in Second Baptist Church (3925 – 32nd Avenue in Kenosha) with Rev. Lawrence L. Kirby II officiating. A reception will follow. Relatives and friends may gather at the church on Tuesday beginning at 10 am.
