Alma Lee Poe

Jul 15, 1944 – Dec 14, 2012

Alma Lee (Hawkins) Poe was born on July 15, 1944 to the union of Leroy and Dosie Hawkins in Starkville, Mississippi.

   Alma accepted Christ at an early age. She belonged to the New Light United Methodist Church in Starkville, Mississippi.  Alma Hawkins and W.C. Poe were united in holy matrimony in 1962 in Starkville, Mississippi. No children were born of this union. 

   Alma worked over the years as a store clerk and she was employed at the Hammond Organ Factory as an assembler. Alma was a great cook who enjoyed sharing meals and good times with her family and friends. Alma loved to spend hours and hours, laughing, talking, and listening to music with close friends. Alma always made you feel welcome.  She was very generous and kind.

   Alma Poe departed this life on December 14, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Dosie Hawkins, two brothers Roy Hawkins and Otis Hawkins, and her beloved long-time companion Levi Taylor. 

   She leaves to cherish her memory Sisters Mary Clayton of Racine, WI, Kitty White of Starkville, MS, Brothers Jimmie Hawkins and Tommie Hawkins of Starkville, MS, Robert Hawkins of Racine, WI, and Sammie Hawkins of Milwaukee, WI. Nieces Deneatrice Clayton and Belinda Clayton of Racine, WI. Special friends Betty Taylor and Hattie Roberson of Starkville, MS and Dorthy Tyler of Kenosha. WI. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

    Her Funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at 11am. Visitation will be the same day, 10-11am, in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory.
