Lucille P. VanGemert

Apr 13, 1919 – Mar 14, 2013
Racine – Lucille P. VanGemert, 93, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2013. She was born in Racine on April 13, 1919, daughter of the late Delbert and Florence (nee: Brandon) Webster. She was a lifelong Racine resident. Lucille was the devoted wife of William VanGemert, whom she married on February 11, 1950.

Lucille and her husband owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store called VanGemert’s Foods and prided themselves on their wide selection, their motto being, “Don’t ask if we have it. Ask where it is.” Lucille loved gardening, “bridge club with the girls”, traveling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. For a few years after retirement she and her husband resided in sunny Brownsville, Texas, but ultimately returned to her beloved Racine where she most recently resided at the Becker-Shoop Memory Care Center.

Lucille is survived by her two sons Roy R. (Kathie) Glenzer of Racine, and Ronald H. (Doris) Glenzer of Lake Forrest, California; six grandchildren, Kelly (Robert) Mould, Kimberly Glenzer, Kerry Glenzer, Christine (Damon) Kuntz, Ronald (Stacey) Glenzer Jr.; great-grandchildren Joseph, Jonathan, and Janet Glenzer-Brown, Joseph and Jessica Glenzer-Morton, Andrew, Alex, and Alissa Decker, Andrew and Trevor Grandstaff, Nicole (Jeremy) De Jong, Courtney (Aaron) Miller, Daniel Kuntz; great-great-grandchildren Dayjia and Daymon Brown-Fraizer, and Natalie and Wayatt De Jong, Konner Miller. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, William VanGemert; granddaughter Melissa Decker; her brothers and sisters Delbert, Harold, Vernon, Alvin and Alvie, Josephine, Frances, and Della.

Complete services will be held in the chapel at Mound Cemetery (1147 West Blvd) at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Memorials to the Becker-Shoop Center have been suggested.

Testimonials

Cain

I just can’t get over how beautiful everything was for my mom’s funeral. She had a rough last four weeks but your amazing team totally did her justice! I was pretty confused during that hard time, but Brian, you made sure that all the “I”s were dotted and all the “T”s crossed. For that, I thank you. I also would like to thank the amazing team of makeup artists. My mom looked beautiful.
