George Milton Krug

Oct 18, 1940 – Jun 27, 2013

Racine – George Milton Krug, 72, received the promise of eternal life on Thursday, June 27, 2013.  He was a lifelong resident of Racine and was born on October 18, 1940, son of the late George G. and Helen (nee: Peterson) Krug.  George was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church.

George would tell everyone that he was a musician, mortician, and machinist.  George took accordion lessons at a very young age and was an excellent accordionist.   In later years, George taught himself how to play the piano, organ, and saxophone.   He played around town at venues with different groups and became part of the local night life.  He also loved to play religious music.

George owned and operated Krug Funeral Home for many years.  The funeral home originated in 1895 as Bierman Furniture Store and Krug Funeral Home.  George’s grandfather, John, owned the funeral home part of the business.  Bierman and Krug later separated and the funeral home was owned and operated solely by John.  The funeral home was left to George’s father, George G. Krug, following John’s death.  The funeral home was incorporated as Krug Funeral Home when George took over the business from his father.  George graduated from Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science at the age of 22 and operated the funeral home as a funeral director until 1981.  George sold the funeral home to Pastor Jerry Wilkerson in 1981 and continued as a funeral director for Pastor Wilkerson until 1986.

Following his funeral service work, George was employed as a machinist at Racine Hydraulics and Bosch.  George finally retired for the last time in 2006.

George married Sharon Baldukas in 1965 and is survived by their two children, Kristopher (Julie) Krug of Matthews, NC, Karl Krug of Chicago, IL; and grandson, Alex Krug of Chicago, IL.  He married Bonnie Christensen in 1983 and is survived by Bonnie; two step-children, Keith Christensen, Robyn (Robert) Kolesar; step-grandchildren, Hannah Lee Kolesar and Grace Elizabeth Kolesar.  George is further survived by his sisters, Judith McDermaid, Marlene (Vern) Larrabee; other nieces, nephews and relatives too numerous to mention.

A memorial service celebrating George’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, 11:00am, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road, with Rev. David L. Echelbarger officiating.  Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service.
