Sep 1, 1946 – Nov 11, 2013

Mt. Pleasant – Robert Allen Legler, 67, passed away unexpectedly at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee on Monday, November 11, 2013. A lifelong resident of Racine, Bob was born on September 1, 1946, the son of the late Albert and Emma (nee: Castle) Legler. He was a 1964 graduate of Park High School, and received his bachelor’s degree from Carthage College. On February 16, 1980 he was married in the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection to Alice Ann Vander Leest. Bob worked over 41 years at JI Case.

Bob will be remembered for his compassion and desire to help his family and many others. During his life he was a foster parent to more than 100 children. He also spent many hours volunteering for Toys for Tots, the Lutheran Thrift Store. Bob was the current secretary for Toastmasters International, and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kenosha.

Surviving are his loving wife, Alice Legler; his children Robert (Lori) Sorensen, Kim (Donald) Veltus, Todd Sorensen, Kristine Legler, Timothy Legler, and Jacob Legler; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Langdon.

Funeral services for Bob will be held in the Bethany Lutheran Church (1520 Green Bay Road, Kenosha) at 11a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013 with Rev. David Pagel officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the church from 10a.m. – 11a.m. In memory of Bob, his family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, each of us take every opportunity to spend quality time with our families and those we love.

Testimonials

Helene Hellesen

Bill’s service was beautiful, beyond belief. Leslie was priceless in all she did. Gary, knowing Bill for many years, said a few words at the service. The special touched I didn’t expect warmed my heart. Two very, very special people helped make a sad day into something very special.

Thank you to all those that helped behind the scene, setting up, opening doors. My heart is full.

Bless you.
