
Racine – Latasha Monique Collins, 41, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was born in Racine on November 30, 1974, the daughter of Carol Denise Cobb and Roy Dale Powell. Tasha graduated from Washington Park High School in 1993, and then went on to earn an Associate Degree in Human Services from Gateway Technical College. On August 12, 2000 she was married to Carey Maurice Collins in the New Omega Missionary Baptist Church.
Tasha enjoyed her work in Community Outreach at UW-Parkside and at Wisconsin Promise, where she mentored young adults desiring to further their education. She was dedicated to her community, and was a regular columnist in both the Racine Mirror and the Racine Insider. Tasha was a known “fashionista” who loved to shop, and was a successful Mary Kay representative as well. Leisure time often involved networking and developing friendships. She was also an avid “basketball mom”.
Tasha is survived by her husband, Carey Collins; her children, Jazlyn Collins and Cozion Collins; her mother, Carol Cobb; brother Justin Cobb; aunts, Mary Selmon, Martha Selmon, and Linda Cobb; uncles, Ernest Cobb, Gary (Laura) Cobb, Michael Cobb, Ronnie (Ruby) Cobb, and Greg Powell; nephew, Demarion Cobb; God-daughter, Ke’Juana Collier, special great aunt Vallie (Walter) Rogers and special cousins, Camilla Selmon (like a sister), Jermaral Cobb, Alpheius Swanks and Nicole Cobb-Franklin. She is further survived by her mother-in-law, Bonnye Collins; brothers-in-law, Curtis Collins Jr. and Cyle Collins; grandmother-in-law, Ardie Willis; as well as many other relatives and special friends, Dedre Harris and Autumn Marzette. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Powell; uncle, William Selmon; grandparents, Deborah and Bud Cobb; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Simmons; cousin, Anthony Selmon and father-in-law, Curtis Collins.
Homegoing services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the New Omega Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Fred L. Richmond officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church from 10:00 am until the start of the service.
