Caledonia – Frances Marie Rule, 78, passed away in Whitewater on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Frances was born on October 4, 1937, daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (nee: Horner) Hertelt Jr. Fran grew up on a small dairy farm located on 6 ½ Mile Rd. She attended St. Louis Catholic Grade School and St. Catherine’s High School. She graduated from St. Cats in 1956.
On August 2, 1958 in Caledonia she was married to Donald Lee Rule. Frances will be remembered in many more ways than can be written here. She was a dear wife, loving mother, precious grandmother, incredible friend, and just an outstanding person. She had an amazing work ethic, was always learning and growing, not afraid to adapt to new technologies, and mastered many a game on Facebook.
Always caring for her family, she had a zeal and gusto for life. So creative, she was amazing in how she could make something beautiful out of nothing. She loved animals and nature and passed that love and respect legacy on to each of her children. Frances enjoyed working in her garden, sewing, going on shopping expeditions, especially antiquing and jewelry hunting. She belonged to several clubs and took adventurous trips with the friends that sparkled in her life. She lived life as a journey of discovery and her voice would vibrate with excitement and her eyes light up with joy when she would share stories.
Frances had many roles in the workforce including Executive and Administrative Assistant positions for over 40 years. She was an asset to JI Case, WI Electric-Gas, and most recently for the City of Racine Park and Recreation Department. She had her own small businesses, one was “Creative Ideas” and another was “Jewelry Exchange”. In the 60’s-70’s Frances was very active with raising 5 children, so adding in PTA at Giese Elementary and being a Den Mother when Scott was a Cub Scout plus all the sporting and extracurricular events each child was involved in kept her busy.
Frances is survived by her husband Donald Rule of Caledonia; sons Mike (Jenny) Rule of Whitewater, and Joe (Rhonda) Rule of Glendale, Arizona; daughter Dona Rule of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter-in-law Jeanette Rule of Racine; grandchildren Luke, Joshua, Devin, Sam, Kora, (& step-grandchildren) Angel and Matt; great-granddaughter “KK”; as well as other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her sons William “Bill” Rule in 2008 and Scott Rule in 2010.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 for a visitation and time to meet with her family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial mass for Frances will be held in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 with Rev. Terry Huebner officiating. Visitation in the church will begin at 9:00 a.m. Frances will be laid to rest at St. Louis Church Cemetery in a private family service.

So sorry to hear of Fran’s passing. She was our dear neighbor for many years. We would often be planting our flowers at the same time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Don and your family. We will not be able to attend Fran’s funeral because we are out of town, but we will be thinking of you all.

So sorry to hear about Frane’s passing. We grew up together from the age of 2-18years of age. We attended St. Louis catholic school through St. Cats’. A lot of time together and great memories. As soften happens we both got married and I moved away but will never forget our growing up in the 50’s. She will be in my prayers and her family

Fran has been my best friend for 40 years. We met while working at Case. We became Caledonia neighbors in 1975. She taught me how to play Sheepshead. We loved antique shopping and rummage sales. Fran loved going to her family farm to feed the cats. Some she brought home for house pets. Currently she has Maggie Mae and Sockey. Fran bowled and golfed. We traveled together to Las Vegas, Arizona, and Hawaii. We shared a lot of things throughout the years — marriages, deaths, grandchildren. We were like sisters. I’ll miss Fran, my best friend. May she rest in peace.
