Mt. Pleasant – Kenny Clausen, 89, renowned general contractor of fine homes (Peter Clausen & Sons) departed this world on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 to join the master carpenter.

Kenny was born into a family of carpenters on September 25, 1927.  His father Peter started the family business soon after emigrating from Denmark. After graduating from Park High School Kenny was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in occupied Japan for approximately 18 months. Upon his return home, he briefly worked at Young Radiator before channeling his creative carpentry skills into the family contracting business. Kenny worked alongside his father Peter, brothers Harry and Leonard and brothers-in-law George Woodward and Fritz Rasmussen.  Together the family created a reputation for superb quality and fine craftsmanship, designing and constructing some of Racine’s most noteworthy homes.

His home designs would prove useful years later as he built a barn on their picturesque Racine property to accommodate the horsey loves of his daughter Stephanie.  Kenny had a huge heart for the equines belonging to both his daughter and family friends– always ready to help design a barn or assisting with the more challenging chore of trailering horses to horse shows and wherever they needed to go.  For many years he also generously allowed good friends to keep their horses on the family property.

Kenny loved deer hunting although he rarely actually hunted them.  Instead, he relished the opportunity to enjoy the wilderness in the company of fellow sportsmen. A keen golfer, the sport was a shared passion for both Kenny and Saralee who maintained a regular and active golf schedule until recently. Kenny was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed enormously watching the games from the comfort of his chaise lounge every season. He will be sorely missed by all those lucky enough to know him.  His kind smile and gentle nature albeit combined with a streak of stubborn Dane will always be remembered.

Kenny was the loving husband of Saralee (nee: Greenawalt) Clausen of Mt. Pleasant; and dear father of Stephanie (Michael) Kubarth of Paris; and brother-in-law to Nancy Clausen of Racine, and Tom & Mary Greenawalt of Dubuque, Iowa. He also leaves behind a large circle of treasured friends and golfing buddies. Kenny was preceded in death by his son, Peter Clausen; sisters Helen (Fritz) Rasmussen and Hazel (George) Woodward; brothers Harry (Edna) Clausen and Leonard Clausen.

Complete services will be held in the funeral home on Monday, August 7, 2017. All are invited to visit with the family from 4pm-6pm. A memorial service for Kenny will begin at 6pm. Donations to your favorite charity in memory of Kenny will be appreciated. Online condolences at www.draeger-langendorf.com
