Service Details

A celebration of his life will be held at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Road, Mount Pleasant, WI, 53403, on Monday, August 21, 2017, 12:00 p.m., with Prophetess Dorothy Jackson officiating.  Visitation will be in the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

James Russell Freeman Sr. age 62, passed away peacefully in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

James was born on December 23, 1954, in Racine, WI to the late Finest Freeman Jr. and O.T. (nee: Wray) Freeman.

He was a 1973 graduate of Washington Park High School.  After high school he attended UW-Platteville and UW-Parkside majoring in education.  He met his late wife, Wenonah (Miller) Freeman in junior high school.  She was the love of his life.  They were united in marriage on February 8, 1985.

He was a very hard worker.  He was employed by Case from 1978 until 1981.   In 1982 he moved to Madison, WI.   After more than 25 years of service, he retired from the City of Madison.

James was a very kindhearted and easy-going person.  Family was very important to him.  He was a very   devoted father.  His grandchildren were his greatest love.  His many interests included; spending time with family members, gambling, enjoying the lake, canoeing and watching movies and the news on television.  His favorite holiday was the fourth of July.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving to cherish his memory  are his children; Sharon Hudson (Ron White) of Atlanta, GA,  Toni Hoefferle of West Covina, CA, James Jr.(Tina)Freeman of Belmont, WI, Daryl (Pam) Freeman of DeForest, WI, David (Angie)Freeman of Sun Prairie, WI, Angela Freeman (Claude Golden) of Madison, WI and Jonathan Wray of Charlotte, NC;  loving mother, O.T. Freeman; siblings Don(Jane) Freeman of Stoughton, WI, Willie Freeman  and Denise Freeman both of Racine, WI; mother in-law, Ethel Smith, sister-in-law Cynthia (James) Ryan, brothers-in-law; Lloyd (Camille) Williams and Richard Williams, both of Racine; and 14 grandchildren. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.   He was preceded in death by his wife Wenonah; their daughter, Kimberly; father, Finest Freeman Jr.; grandparents, Finest Sr. and Eteria Freeman, McKinley and Janie Wray; father-in-law George Smith and sister-in law; Debbie Cozzi and host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home at 4600 County Line Road on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Jones officiating.  Visitation will be in the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
