Caledonia – Phillip J. Burmeister, age 65, and his beloved wife, Nadine Burmeister, age 62; passed away together as the result of their motorcycle vs. automobile accident in Yorkville on Friday afternoon, May 25, 2018. Always together, they were doing what they enjoyed most – taking a ride on their Harley-Davidson on a beautiful sunny afternoon on their way out to Burlington’s Chocolate Fest.

As lifetime residents, Phillip was born in Racine on October 6, 1952 to the late Glenn and Evelyn (nee: Rosendall) Burmeister and Nadine was born on October 7, 1955 to the late Clifford and Maxine (nee: Pranke) Thordson.  Phillip graduated from Washington Park High School in in 1969 and Nadine graduated from JI Case High School in 1973. They were united in marriage on October 6, 1984.

Phil was employed as a lead machinist at Styberg Engineering for over 43 years – retiring in 2015. Nadine was currently employed by Rexnord for the past seven years as an export coordinator. Previously, she worked for  Bosch for 33 years.

Phil and Nadine are members of Racine County Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Chapter #4095 and of Fifth Street Yacht Club. Among their interests, they enjoyed participating in local & out-of-state car shows, swap meets, cruising their hot rods and Harley, socializing with their extensive circle of friends, and stopping in at The Bunker in Waterford. Above all, they loved spending time together – especially when with their adored daughter, Caitlyn.

Surviving are their loving daughter, Caitlyn (fiancé, Ryan Neu) Burmeister; Nadine’s brothers, Bruce, Alan & Nordman Thordson; Phil’s brothers, Robert, Greg (Amy) & Deacon Danny (Annette) Burmeister; sisters-in-law, Helene and Karen Burmeister; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends – too numerous to mention all by name. In addition to their parents, they were preceded in death by Phil’s brothers, Dale and Gene Burmeister.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Phil & Nadine’s wonderful life together will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 12:00 noon with Deacon Dan Burmeister officiating. A reception will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. Private burial will take place at a later date. A special note of thanks to the first responders and bystanders for the care and comfort given to my Mom & Dad at the scene of the accident…..and to all our family & friends for the outpouring of love and support given to us at this most difficult time. Love, Caitlyn & Ryan

I am terribly taken back by this tragedy. Nadine and I worked together and she was fun to be around. She was an excellent role model for personality and work ethics. Did I mention smart too! We stayed in touch after I moved on by phone and emails. Nadine…one of my very favorite friends and colleague will be missed. While I didn’t know Phil as well, I know they loved each other very much and they both will be in my memory until I’m called.
I hope these words strengthen and comfort their daughter.

  17. Pat Pranke says

    June 6, 2018 at 8:47 pm

I am so sorry for the tragic loss of your parents, brother and sister. Nadine was a first cousin to my husband Steve Pranke, son of Eldon Pranke . Maxine, Eldon, Marlys, and Vernon Pranke were brothers. I never knew your family but I remember Steve talking fondly about them. Steve died at 61 from cancer in 2011. The only thing I can tell you about loosing a loved one is to allow yourself time to grieve. Sit quietly in your thoughts, scream when you’re angry, cry because you’re sad. Its’s nice to have family and friends around but unfortunately you’ll find that you grieve alone. The loss of Nadine and Phil is so sad. May they Rest In Peace.

Nadine it’s been a lot of years, & getting together with Golden Girls has been great. I’m so glad that we all started getting together (we’ve had a blast) I wish would have been able to see each other more but sort of hard living 200 miles away. You & Phil are together forever & you both will be missed by many, as you were loved by many. You both raised a lovely & strong daughter who is going to miss you the most. She’s in our hearts & prayers as you both are also. 🙏🏼🌹

Caitlyn and Rhyan: You don’t know the Vernon Pranke relatives much. My parents visited back and forth with your Grand parents, Maxine and Cliff. Please know that we were really looking forward to more time with your Mother and Father after those us could retire and spend more time together. As it is not to be, I hope we can be included in your life. We are unable to with you on Saturday due to the farming situation. But know we are thinking of you all on this day in memory of my dear cousin Nadine and husband Phil…..love the picture of them! I am going to try and come to the burial. Please keep us informed. With Love, Diane Pranke Nelson.
