Mathilde Dietrich

May 6, 1925 – Jul 11, 2020

Service Details

Private services were held.

On July 11th, Mathilde Elisabeth Dietrich, famously known as “Oma”, passed away at the young age of 95.  Born on May 6th, 1925, Oma emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1955 to join her younger sister in Racine WI.  There she settled in, started working at Rainfair making jackets, then moving on to be a custodian at Starbuck School and Olympia Brown, where she was most loved and respected by teachers for her hard work and attention to details.  After retirement, she embarked on a new journey to reside in Mesa, AZ, then moving to Austin, TX, then making the final round back to Racine, WI.  Oma was a very loving mother and the most loving grandmother, always proud of her boys.  Her time and teaching has left an everlasting impression on us all.  Oma was a super star.

She is survived by her three grandsons, Hans, Martin, and Peter, daughter-in-law Jessica, and great grandchildren Clay, Bella, Micah, Holden, Oliver, & Micaela….not to mention the  countless friends and other family members that she graced and showered with her love, care, and compassion.

Her spirit will remain with us always.  Her love will never be forgotten.

Wenn ich in den Himmel schaue,
    so denke ich an Dich
    Du bist unser Stern,
denn wie auch das Leuchten der Sterne Millionen Jahre anhält,
    so bleibt auch Dein Leuchten
    in unseren Herzen,
und es erlischt erst in dem Moment,
in dem wir uns wieder sehen.
    Ruhe in Frieden🕯
    In Liebe

I just found out about Mathilde passing and I am so sorry for your loss. My Mom met Mathilde at Home Harbor and they were best buddies until my Mom had to leave for medical reasons. I told her today and she was just shocked. She asked me to tell you all that she was a good friend and she loved her. Mathilde was outgoing and just a precious soul.
    God bless you all!

Oma was the bomb! She had mad love for people and her warmth and kindness was evident in everything she did. She was candid & welcoming in a way that nobody would ever have believed was born in 1925. She was today., now, open and new. Being July 2020 in new found awareness w/regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, and physical or mental disability…we could ALL learn a lesson from Oma…who was simply your friend. RIP Oma XO, Sewah
