Gary F. Lamberty

vet
Nov 29, 1949 – Sep 2, 2020

Service Details

A private family service will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on November 4, 2020 in Gary’s honor.

Gary F. Lamberty, age 70, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, with his two girls by his side.

Gary was born in Racine, Wisconsin, on November 29, 1949, the second son of the late Francis and Helen (nee Johnson) Lamberty.

After graduating from Washington Park High School in 1967, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He proudly served with the 5th Special Forces Group.  Upon completing two tours in Vietnam, he returned stateside as a member of the Army Reserves.

In 1986, Gary graduated from Carthage College with a degree in Physical Education.  He was employed by the Racine Unified School District teaching PE and Health at the Brown Alternative Center, McKinley Middle School, and Dr. Jones Elementary School.  He retired in 2012.

A lifelong Martial Arts enthusiast Gary was versed in many forms.  He held black belts in Jiu Jitsu and TaeKwonDo which he studied in South Korea.  Gary is remembered as a loyal, honorable, generous, and respected man.  In 1991, he was awarded a Carnegie Medal by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission for risking his life to protect others during an attack near his home.

Gary deeply valued his Catholic faith, and more than anything, his family.  He loved babies, jokes, deep conversations, and working on his personal gym.  He was a night owl who enjoyed chess, sudoku, listening to music, and his coffee and smokes.

Gary’s greatest joy in life was being what he called a “3-D”–a devoted, doting dad.  He was an incredible father who fiercely protected, loved, supported and inspired his children.  He is survived and tremendously missed by his daughters, Courtney Lamberty Heide and Megan (Igor) Lisica, as well as his five beloved grandchildren, his “bubba”, Christian Heide, who helped care for him in his final days, Autumn Heide, Noah Heide, Rio Lisica and Niko Lisica.

He is further survived by his mother, Helen Lamberty, siblings, Ron Lamberty, Rick (Sandy) Lamberty, Linda Toft, Judy Kuchera and Sharon (Bill) Sliker, and also many nieces and nephews.

Gary and his family were grateful for the compassion and care he received by the many medical professionals he met during his journey.  A special thanks to Dr. Gullberg, Dr. Choi, Dr. Rosenberg and Dr. Leh.

A private family service will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on November 4, 2020 in Gary’s honor.

I am sorry to hear about Gary’s passing. The obituary shown here was wonderful. It confirmed what I already knew about him – that he was a wonderful dad and grandpa. It also made me realize that many other people were blessed because of his efforts. That is a wonderful legacy.

Gary will always have a special place in my heart….. He loved his daughters and grandchildren and actually all of his family very much. He lived his life on his terms and that is to be admired. I love you and miss you, Gary…….

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to school with Gary in the Park Class of 67. I always thought of him as a friend even though we never hung out together. I remember when he took out that madman wielding a machete at Lathrop and Washington with a leg sweep. He saved many people that day from injury. Never thinking of himself. A great hero.

Courtney, I’m so sorry for your loss. Your dad was my favorite teacher in middle school. I’ll never forget other students were leaving their class and trying to get into his because he was that awesome.

So very sorry for your loss Rick. Gary led a full life, but I can imagine how hard it is to lose a brother. My condolences to the rest of Gary’s family.

To the family of Mr. Lamberty,
I am sorry for your loss. In 1992 during 8th grade he was my gym teacher and worked one on one with me. My social anxiety was the highest at the time. I will forever be grateful for the encouragement he gave me to talk to people as he taught me weightlifting , basketball and some self defense.

I served with Gary in Viet Nam in the 5th Special Forces. After my 3 tours I returned to the states , I married my Vletnamese wife and we sent our honeymoon visiting him at the army based he was stationed. He had a broken leg. We were both martial artists. He was a man everyone would like to have as a friend. We will miss him.

Testimonials

November 13, 2019

The funeral service was just beautiful and very warming to everyone including my family. All the pictures they did and the employees were just fantastic. This is one funeral home I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to feel comfortable and to be treated like family. I can’t say enough good things because it was just such a warm welcome. Thank you to Mark and Mike. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
