Ritu Sethi

Jan 29, 1967 – Nov 18, 2020

Memorial Suggestions

Ritu Sethi, 53, passed away unexpectedly at her home on November 18, 2020 in Kenosha. Born in Ajmer, India on January 27, 1967, she was the daughter of Pushpa and Om Mathur. She attended St. Mary’s Convent and received a Bachelor’s in Arts at Sophia Girls College in Ajmer, India.

Ritu Sethi moved to Kenosha in 1992, where she resided the past 25 years, dedicating her life to raising her family. She was a devoted, loving mother. Those who knew her, knew her to be compassionate, kind, and generous.

Ritu loved cooking and always had a meal on the table for everyone to share. Whether she expected one guest or three, she cooked enough to feed a family of ten. Her loved ones may remember being sent home with more tupperware than fridge space. She was also an avid painter, writer, and fashion designer. She enjoyed spending her free time writing and talking with her family.

Ritu is survived by Ashwani Sethi; her mother, Pushpa Mathur; her sisters Anuradha Simlote, Priti Mathur, and brother Vinay Mathur; and her children, Nikhil A. Sethi and Vikas S. Sethi.

Donations in her memory may be made at Educate Girls, a non-profit in India that works district-to-district and village-to-village, creating educational pathways for girls by seeking fundamental shifts in local norms in India. Those who which to donate may do so by clicking on this link  https://audaciousproject.org/ideas/2019/educate-girls.

I remember how she loved to take care of all the cousins in her younger days when there were so many babies running around. Nisha and I would be so excited to sleepover when they lived down the street from us.

May her soul rest in peace and the boys have the strength to endure this loss with time

I don’t even know where to start. These last few days have been incredibly hard. Thanksgiving was so special for us last year because that was the year when I first got to meet you. Just from that meeting I could tell you cared so deeply for Vikas and Nikhil. You were always so eager to cook delicious food, shower us with presents, and tell us about your stories in India. We were excited to do it all over again this year.

You always called me your daughter and I hope to carry on your legacy in future. I’m praying for you and the Sethi family. May her soul Rest In Peace. Love you.💕

Dearest Nikhil and Vikas and Ashwini Uncle,
I don’t even know where to start… your Mom was one of the most caring, loving people I have ever known. She was part of our family… a sister to both Susie Aunty and George Uncle and like a second mother to Roy and I. She loved Joseph, Arya, and Jaya so much too. Ritu Aunty will forever be in my heart.
May her soul Rest In Peace. I know she will always be watching over the two of you with the biggest smile on her face… she was so proud of you both and you were the light of her life.
    Love you guys.

Asha Didi, Joseph, Arya, n Jaya

    Vikas and Nikhil,

Your mom had a hilarious sense of humor. Whether she was giving you two crap or making a sassy comment, she had a way of being warm and witty at the same time.
She was generous with her time and especially her food. I’ve told friends that I was so lucky growing up with a conveyer belt of delicious Indian food right to our door. I think that was her love language.
She meant a lot to me and represented a lot of childhood memories. I thought of her as an aunt. It was clear that you two were her life and that she had endless love for you. I think she thought of you as her greatest accomplishment. I don’t know what it’s like to be in your shoes but I hope you find a little more peace every day.

I have just met you once but I remember that we clicked in the very first meeting. Those three days with you were really good. I remember reading your poems and discussing fashion with you. You liked all the earrings that brought with geetika. I remember chatting with you on fb on random topics at 3am. I remember that you love mango icecream and always like buying strawberry vanilla and mango icecream altogether. I will always remember you when I will have mango icecream or banana split..
I will always remember you as a strong woman who speaks her heart.
May your soul rest in peace. May god give strength to family

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

My husband, Tom, died on Jan. 24, 2015. From that life-changing day and still now, Gary and his sons have been at my side taking care of me, advising me, and guiding me with their sensitive, caring, and efficient expertise. I have heard from friends and family how perfect and wonderful the funeral service was (it was a blur for me), and I have the beautiful obit, memorial booklets, CD rom of slide show, celebration candle, portrait, and even personalized thank you cards to provide memories and comfort during difficult days ahead. My heart is full of thanks and appreciation to Gary Langendorf and his entire family.
