RACINE – Dennis R. Kavanagh, 76, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Ascension All Saints on Friday, April 9, 2021.

He was born in Chicago on August 31, 1944, the son of the late John and Loretta (nee Berndt) Kavanagh.  He grew up in Bristol, WI.  His first jobs were working hard on local dairy farms. Dennis graduated from Salem Central High School.

Dennis took great pride in tending bar for upscale establishments, including Ray Radigan’s and Higgins Hob Nob, and always dreamed of owning his own supper club. His sense of humor and conversation led to many friendships and stories he would enjoy telling in later years.

Dennis married the love of his life, Terasa DeGrand on October 4, 1975.  After marrying they moved to Racine.  He went to work for Superior Die Set in Oak Creek for over 20 years until his retirement.  Dennis loved fishing, hunting, and taking his family on road trips.

He was a loving husband to Terasa for 45 years and a devoted father to three children, Jennifer Kavanagh of Madison, Michael (Sheena) Kavanagh, and Patrick (Nicole) Kavanagh both of Racine.  He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Addison, Claire, Emma, Madelyn and Dane. They lit up his life.   Dennis is further survived by his sister, Alice Ranker of Twin Lakes; as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Nichols; his sisters-in-laws and brother-in-law, Bernadette Parr, Veronica DeGrand and Donald Ranker.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Lucy Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Ave) on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 for a visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  The celebration of his life and memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Domenic Roscioli officiating.  His interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia after the Mass.

The Kavanagh family extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Ascension All Saints for the loving and professional attention Dennis received while under their care.

Testimonials

May 22, 2019

We recently used Draeger-Langendorf’s services for my grandmothers funeral and we are so thankful for Mike and the rest of the staffs help. They made the whole process easy and never urged us to make a certain choice. They were very informative of how the service was going to go and always made sure we knew what was going on. To our surprise Mike Langendorf was there singing in the choir during the funeral and it really made us feel like he truly cared about us. Such a fantastic singing voice! Amazing people to have helping plan during a hard time, would highly recommend.
