Memorial Services celebrating Emma’s life will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 4:30 pm. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 pm until the time of service.
Mount Pleasant – Emma Steinhoff, age 87, passed away at home on Monday, March 13, 2023.
Emma was born in Breitenthal, Germany on September 19, 1935 to Josef and Franziska (nee: Egger) Deutschenbaur. She came to the United States in 1958. Emma owned and operated Astro Deli & Nut Shop and Mooncorn Popcorn Company. She also worked in the grocery store industry in the deli department. Emma was a long-time member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. She was a professional seamstress, being very accomplished in crocheting and knitting. Emma took 1st Place with her knitted tablecloths four years running at the Arkansas State Fair. She loved listening to German and opera music. Emma had a fondness of putting together puzzles and had one going all the time. She was an avid baker, satisfying the sweet tooth of every member of her family. Emma had a deep affection for her family and loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She adored the cats in her life, especially her favorite, Schatzie.
Surviving are her children, Raymond (Karen), Francis and Connie; grandchildren, Carly, Gregory, Paul (Lori), Maxwell, Joseph (Christine), Rhiannon and Kenzie; great grandchildren, Quintin, Daniella, Marly, Emerly, Athena and Everest; former son-in-law, Toby; special friend, Vickie; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Franziska; sister, Agnes; son-in-law, William.
Memorial Services celebrating Emma’s life will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 4:30 pm. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Croix Hospice have been suggested. The family would like to give special thanks to Kathi and Mike with St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care given to Emma.

I only met Emma once while visiting her daughter, Fran. She was very kind to me and gifted me some of her beautiful knitted doilies and vintage handkerchiefs that she knew I collected. I am fortunate to own one of her gorgeous tablecloths as well. Fran was an excellent caregiver and daughter to her mom. Fran took care of Emma for years taking her to appointments, shopping being there with her when she was sick or recovering and I know that Emma was appreciative of that. Emma adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She most certainly will be missed as she has touched many lives.

What a special friend and neighbor Emma was. We laughed, Talked and enjoyed each others company. She made special cookies for me and I made casseroles for her. She will stay in my heart forever.

I was blessed to meet Emma while working at Curves. Emma brought me so much happiness. My mother was born in Ingolstadt, Germany and passed away when I was 18 years old. Emma reminded me so much of my mother. We had so many good times together. From going out to breakfast, luncheon’s and she will always be my liver and onion’s dinner date. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I am unable to attend her funeral today and I am terrible sorry for that. I feel very blessed to have a few of her dollies that she gifted me. I will always hold my memories of Emma so close to my heart. RIP, my sweet, sweet friend. Please give my mom a great big hug. Until we meet again.
