On Thursday May 2, 2024, Qadeem Ameer Shakoor I a.k.a. Edward Simpson Sr., affectionately known by some as “Lone Wolf”, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Aurora Medical Center in Mount Pleasant at the glorious age of 93. He was born on April 3, 1931, to Willie and Dora (nee: Bolton) Simpson in Ebony Arkansas.  He was united in marriage to Dhameera Shakoor a.k.a. Mattie Simpson (nee: Barker) on May 1, 1951.

Mr. Shakoor was a member and key founder of the Racine Islamic Center and made numerous sacrifices towards its maintenance and propagation. He was dedicated to his faith and it was unwavering. He was a great father, grandfather, and husband.  He was an honorable and respected man by many. He was also a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews, as well as to many of the neighborhood children. He offered assistants to many on various levels.  He was kind, but also possessed the great wisdom of knowing when to show firmness.

He was employed at Racine Steel Casting for over 46 years as Air Grinder, lead man, and supervisor, he was also a member of UAW Local #553.  Qadeem was also a businessman who owned a restaurant combined with a deli and other choice goods- “The House of Chicken,” which was the only restaurant that Muhammad Ali would patronize when he was in town. He was a master chef, barber, mechanic, and auto body repair man.

He also enjoyed preparing food (catering) for large gatherings, listening to down home blues, cutting a rug, (dancing) and bowling. In his younger years, he was an avid skater and swimmer.

He was especially proud and honored to be a member of the security team of one of the world’s profound leaders, Imam W. Deen Mohammed. He also had no hesitation in voicing how proud he was of his children.

Mr. Shakoor leaves to cherish and honor his memory five children: Janet Simpson Hardaway; Kamillah (William) Hallmon both of Atlanta, GA; Q.A. Shakoor II; Sameerah Shakoor-Hasan; Gabriel Shakoor-Simpson all of Racine, WI; Daughter-in-love; Aaisha Flint of Atlanta, GA; 52 grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren, four brothers: Eddie (Ginnett) Simpson, Oscar Simpson both of Racine, WI;  Ocelia (Joy) Simpson of Oak Creek, WI;  Rodney (Flora) Simpson of Nassau, BAH; sister Betty Mullins of Marion, ARK, sisters-in-law: Magnolia Williams, Mable Hendrix, Emma Jean Barker, Ethel Simpson, Mary Simpson of Racine, WI , Dorothy Simpson of Memphis, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends , and a very special niece Diane Gory.

Mr. Shakoor was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, brothers, Willie Jr., Floyd Sr., and Johnny Simpson, brothers in-law Johnny and Joe Barker, Freddie Jamison and Eddie Hendrix; sisters in-law Mary Jamison and Ruth Hazel Jones; sons in-law Eddie Hardaway, Rafi Hasan I, Mikal Muslim I.

Testimonials

January 9, 2025

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)

Valerie Tucker and the Family of Barbara Bell
