Service Details

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, for a visitation from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. 

 

A service celebrating her life and Homegoing will take place at 11:00 am with Rev. Charles Gates officiating. 

 

Her interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.

On November 7, 2024, Leona Lavonia Young of Kenosha, Wisconsin passed away at Water’s Edge Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by family.

On November 19, 1987, Leona was born to her parents, Eddie and Bessie (Carr) Young in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Leona was the youngest out of five children and was a daddy’s girl. Leona was named after her father’s mother Leona Palmer Young. Leona had nicknames such as “Wee Wee” “Ga Ga” and “Lil Tut” which was another nickname that she was given after her grandmother Leona. Leona’s favorite colors were purple and black; loved to go to the gas station to play her Scratch Offs, and her favorite food was sub sandwiches from Sub Way.

Born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Leona attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Tremper High School.

Leona comes from a “Huge” family! She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones; her favorite words when she greeted or saw you were “Hey Cuz!” Leona loved her family, she loved Life! Leona did not mind walking around in town. When you saw her, she always had that glow and smile upon her face.

Leona consistently showed respect and admiration for her parents as well as her siblings; in all challenging situations and circumstances. Leona had a smile on her face despite the challenges. She was known for her forgiving heart. She genuinely treated others with kindness and care.

Leona will be missed and remembered by her parents Eddie and Bessie (Carr) Young Kenosha, Wisconsin and her siblings: Felicia Hopkins; Norfolk, VA; Eddie Young, LaTanya Young, Charles Young all of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Godmother Bertha Stewart; Kenosha, Wisconsin and friend La La; Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Leona is loved and will be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Leona Young was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Frank and Bessie (Francis) Pollard, paternal grandparents Nathaniel and Leona (Palmer) Young Sr, uncles Carnell Henderson, Barry Ricky, Nathaniel Young Jr, Mark Young, aunts Patricia Ricky, Linda Mitchell, and Sandra Foster.
