Bernard "Bernie" William Gross, Sr.

Mar 5, 1941 – Feb 20, 2025

Service Details

Per Bernie’s wishes, there will be no service to follow. He will return to his home with Sally to rest.

Bernard “Bernie” William Gross passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his immediate family. The family is deeply saddened but grateful that he passed as he wished; at home. Bernie was born on March 5, 1941. He was 83 years old.

Bernie is survived and missed by his loving wife Sally (née Gagnon) of 65 years; and his children, Bernard Jr. “Ozzie” (Cindy), Timothy (Karen), and Susan (Roy). Forever cherished and remembered by his three grandchildren, Joel, Sophia (Cortnie), and Ali-Rae, and three great-grandchildren, Naomi, Adrianna, and Maxwell. Siblings and their families; Brian (Karen), Adelphia (Bob), Edna, Marilyn (Steve), Noreen, Debbie (Steve), and Terry. His memory will be carried by the Gagnon family; Charles and Allan (Bonnie).

Bernie was predeceased by his father, Adolph, his mother, Dorothy, his brothers Leon, Milton, and Werner, and his sisters Dorothy Jane and Arlene. He was also predeceased by his in-laws Merritt and Margaret, brother-in-laws Robert and James.

He was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and grew up on his family farm. In his youth, he enjoyed raising hell and going fast, which sparked his lifelong love of drag racing. Marrying the love of his life on June 13, 1959, they welcomed their children in the following years. He enjoyed every moment as a father, showing them unconditional love through the highs and lows of their own lives. He was employed at AMC and Chrysler, working as a machine repairman until his retirement in 1989. He continued his passion for machining at his shop, “142”, for the rest of his life.

Bernie took a very active role in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with them, creating memories that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. He will forever be remembered for the special moments he created with them. He told his granddaughter, Sophia, the years he spent with them were, “The best years of my life.”

As his grandson Joel said, “He walked the walk, and lived in a way that should be an example to everyone. He loved a lot, and that love was returned to him because of it.” Bernie will be remembered for his humor and unwavering love, and will forever be missed.

Per Bernie’s wishes, there will be no service to follow. He will return to his home with Sally to rest.

Bernie will be sadly missed. I have known Bernie and Sally since I was 14 years old. I am now 81 years old. I was around when each of their beautiful children were born and sometimes even baby-sat them. My sincere condolences to Sally, Oz, Susan and Tim. Richard Tremmel

Testimonials

November 13, 2019

The funeral service was just beautiful and very warming to everyone including my family. All the pictures they did and the employees were just fantastic. This is one funeral home I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to feel comfortable and to be treated like family. I can’t say enough good things because it was just such a warm welcome. Thank you to Mark and Mike. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
