Service Details

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home.  A visitation will take place on Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Private interment will take place in Green Ridge Cemetery.

 

Ellen Mae Shuemate, age 98, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, passed away on August 19, 2025, surrounded by family, after a long illness.

Ellen was born in Wausau, Wisconsin on February 22, 1927, to the late Daniel Davies and Leonore (Flatter) Davies. She was educated in the schools of Wausau, Wisconsin and graduated from Wausau Senior High School. She met her husband, Albert C. Shuemate in San Francisco, California, and was married on August 14, 1948, in Wausau, Wisconsin. Albert preceded her in death in 2007.

In Ellen’s younger years, she worked at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and the Wisconsin Telephone Company. After having children, Ellen was a homemaker. She was instrumental in the formation of the Jane Vernon PTA and spent much time volunteering in the school. She was a founding member of Wesley United Methodist Church and past Trustee and belonged to the UMW and Martha Circle. Her greatest joy was being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son James (Karla) Shuemate and children Timothy (Melissa) Shuemate, Carolyn (Ryan) Bell, Diana Shuemate, and Thomas Shuemate; daughter Barbara Madrigrano and children Glenn Madrigrano Jr., and Mia (Christopher) Hughes; and daughter Tammy (Gerald) Konitzer and children Abigail (Aaron) Nickel, Courtney (Elias) Bychowski, and Hayley Konitzer; eleven great grandchildren, sister Margaret Hackbarth, a special niece and her husband, Jane and Jim Kreuser, and her good friend, Ralph Greco. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Ruth Steffers and Daniel Davies, her son-in-law, Glenn Madrigrano, Sr., and a grandson in infancy, Steven Konitzer.
