
Racine- Alanders “Jay” Johnson, 45, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, February 5, 2012 of an apparent heart attack.
Alanders was born in Hughes, Arkansas on March 19, 1966. He was the oldest of five children and was very protective of his four younger sisters. Following graduation from high school, Jay faithfully served our Country with the United States Army in Operation Desert Storm.
On March 19, 1999 in Arkansas, he was united in marriage with Cynthia Marie Motley. For the past 16 years, Jay has been employed by the State of Wisconsin – Department of Corrections as a corrections officer, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Among his interests, Jay enjoyed darts and playing cards with family and friends, and trying to win the lottery. He was extremely athletic and was known to challenge others to a running race. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved being together with his entire family.
Surviving are his loving wife, Cynthia; mother, Brenda A. Young; children, Tasha (Clifton) Gholson, Temeka (Larry) Mosley, Veronica (Jermain Mickens) Motley, Demarcus Love and Tevin Motley; 6 grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Lee, Merchell (Rufus) Venzant-Moore, Eunice (Timothy) Ward and Denece (Tijuan) Moore; special uncles, Glen and Roosevelt Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends too numerous to mention by name. Jay was preceded in death by his father, Lee Howard Booker; and brother-in-law, Antonio Neal.
A Homegoing Celebration, with military honors, will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Keith T. Evans officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 12 noon – 2 pm. Additional services and burial will take place in Alander’s hometown in Arkansas on Saturday, February 18, 2012.
