Racine – Anna Lydia Rebman, age 99, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday morning, May 8, 2013.
Anna was born in Racine on November 16, 1913 to Lajos and Rozalia (nee: Nemeth) Lengyel. At the age of 7, she and her family relocated back to Hungary, Europe. However, on her very own at age 17, Anna returned back to the United States in 1930 where she resided in New York City before finally moving back to Racine in 1942.
On September 18, 1943 she was united in marriage to Joseph J. Rebman, who preceded her in death on June 12, 2006. Anna was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church. She took great pride in caring for their home, enjoyed cooking for her family and working in her beautiful flower gardens. Over the years, Anna kept in contact with her family in Hungary, through many letters and cherished phone conversations.
Surviving are her devoted daughter (of whom was her best-friend), Anna Louise Rebman of Racine; sister, Iren Bondar of Budapest, Hungary; and by other relatives including those in Europe. In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by her brother, Lajos, in Hungary.
In accordance with Anna’s wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service celebrating her life will be in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 5:00 pm with Rev. Randal A. Poppe officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-5 pm. Private interment will take place in Mound Cemetery. In memory of Anna, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society have been suggested.
A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Paul Durbin and Dr. Ryan Engel for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly given to my Mother. May God bless both of you!
