Audrey Phelps Cook

Oct 9, 1930 – Oct 16, 2010

Audrey Phelps Cook, age 80, left her Earthly home on Saturday, October 16, 2010 for a reunion in Heaven with her husband, parents and siblings.  She is survived by the children of whom she was extremely proud, Rodney Phelps, Rhonda (Marc) Jensen and Rochelle (Michael) Coleman; grandchildren Jeff, Amanda, Amelia, Robyn and Matt; and great-grandchild, Kaitlyne.  Also left to mourn her passing is special neighbor, Marcus, who was like a great-grandson to her.  Audrey spent many of her working years in the food industry including the Turnstyle deli and the S.C. Johnson Co. cafeteria.  After retiring, she and husband Hershel spent several years traveling and enjoyed winters in Zephyrhills, Florida.  She enjoyed gardening, baking cookies and found a special reward in volunteering as a respite caregiver.  A “Good Samaritan”, Audrey became known as the “water lady” to the construction workers who rebuilt Highway 32 during the brutal summer heat.  She also visited the Humane Society on a regular basis to deliver treats to the dogs awaiting adoption.  Family and many precious friends will miss Audrey’s “spunk” and sense of humor.  Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Marie (Leavy) Wilcox and siblings Ralph Wilcox and Ruth Wilkinson Hegg.

Her funeral service will be in the funeral home on Thursday, October 21st, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Humane Society or volunteer your service to someone in need.
