Racine – Bonnie C. Madrigal, 63, passed away at Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. She was born in Hong Kong, China on November 16, 1954, daughter of the late Kwok Ying Ho and Shiu Lan Wong. Bonnie was united in marriage to Ramon Madrigal in Waukegan, Illinois on December 29, 1980. Ramon preceded her in death on September 11, 2011.

Together, Bonnie and Ramon worked many years servicing Chinese restaurants throughout the Chicago area and in Southeastern Wisconsin. Initially, the couple owned a Chinese restaurant in the late 80’s called “The Golden Phoenix”. A few years later they decided to take a different route in restaurant hospitality to open their first Mexican cuisine restaurant, “Los Mariachis”, and added 3 locations in SE Wisconsin. Their motto was “The only things in life worth having are family, a place to call home & good food.” To say that Bonnie enjoyed cooking and her family would be an understatement. She also liked to travel, and offered generous support to her family, employees, and many community organizations.

Bonnie is survived her children: Sandra Madrigal, Angela (Carlos) Espinoza, Theresa Madrigal, all of Racine; brother Tony Ho of Waukesha; mother-in-law Amalia Madrigal of Racine; brothers-in-law: Jesus (Emilia) Madrigal of Racine, Fidel (Maria) Madrigal of Des Plaines, IL, Simon (Rosa) Madrigal, Miguel (Josefina) Madrigal, Ismael (Gina) Madrigal, all of Sheboygan; sisters-in-law: Luz Madrigal, Alicia (Jesus) Ochoa, Vitalina Madrigal, Maria (Javier) Servantez, all of Racine; 5 grandsons; 3 granddaughters; and other numerous relatives too numerous to mention.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street, on Monday, January 15, 2018, with Rev. Alejandro Rodriguez officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia, Hwy 32. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday morning beginning at 9:30 and conclude with a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will also be in the church on Monday from 10am until the time of the service.  Memorials to the Susan B. Komen Foundation have been suggested.

I worked for Bonnie and Ramone at the Golden Phoenix when I was in high school, Ramone’s passing was devastating and so is hers. I have many fond memories of them both over the years. I will always remember her kindness and smiling face. We had a great talk at Los Mariachi’s about our families and life last fall when she was actually feeling a little better. I will always treasure that. I was blessed to have had her in my life. My deepest condolences to the family and prayers for peace.

Testimonials

March 13, 2025

Thank you so very much for the exemplary care that you provided for both our mom and dad. Your family is extremely kind and exudes much empathy towards others. You and your staff display much professionalism with great talent and attention to detail. Mom and dad were always very particular in their appearance. Mom would say, You are leaving a lasting impression of yourself with someone to remember you by. Your parents taught you boys well; be very proud of that! Love on them, as death is so very permanent.

Holly and I are officially orphans now. It is people like your family and David Huck being there for us, that bring comfort when you are going through one of the most difficult challenges life throws at you.

I thank God every day for our Ostergaard family and will always cherish the memories.

Love you,

Jody Burlingame Wagner
