Thanks, Brian for the laughter that brightened everyone’s day.

I just woke up. I was dreaming of Brian. He was sitting on a bar stool in the middle of the Brian Haas Memorial Ice Skating Rink at Summerfest. He was dressed in black, playing his white Gretsch guitar with some friends of ours and singing a silly song about rock bands. A small group was watching this performance. He looked at me and smiled, then he was gone. I woke up crying. I am sad he’s gone.

  14. Amy Francetic says

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

I was friends with Brian at St. Cats and one of my fondest memories of him is driving to the Wisconsin State Fair with a carload of friends on a hot summer day, he in his leather jacket even though it was sweltering, playing loud music, and laughing hysterically at each other the whole trip. I always thought that Brian had more than one life in him. Rest in peace, friend.

To Brian’s family I send my deepest sympathies and condolences. Brian will be remembered as a great guy, a pleasure at roll call to get our days started with a smile or usually a gut busting laugh…I’ll miss Brian’s daily question, the answer is the same…. “Dukie is doing good.” I’ll miss reliving our old D7 “war stories”, talking “dog” with you buddy, Rest easy, you will be greatly missed and always remembered. 17. Andrew (Andy) Miller says

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

My deepest sympathies to Brian’s family & friends for the sudden loss of a man I remember as the greatest performer at the SCHS Battle of the Bands show 1989. What Brian displayed there, boundless energy, creative enthusiasm, and a basic love of being and playing rock & roll is one of the fondest memories I have of watching the show that night and of being at SCHS with him. Though I haven’t seen him since graduation, it is with great sadness to learn of his death, and hope those close to him remain strong throughout this difficult time. My heart and best wishes go out to the memory of Brian.

  19. Mark Wood says

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

This change is sad indeed, and I am thinking of his family especially Red who taught me never drop your shoulder when your shaking someone’s hand – it looks like a punch and you are likely to get doubled over – he demonstrated. Brian was a solid friend and once asked me to advise on some black jeans – he wanted to look punk – only thing they where boot cut and slightly flared. I failed to explain that did not fit the bill. He used to introduce\imitate me as Hello, my name is Mark Wood, I am a little bit strange and smell like a raccoon’s … …. . I loved Brian. Goodbye old friend and I wish I could have found you for one last nuggy when I came over for re union.

  20. Jeanne Marie Spicuzza says

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

FOR BRIAN I still have the copy of ‘A Clockwork Orange’ that you gave me. Carol brought you to see me read poetry. Later, I was surprised by the gun, unloaded and cold, on your table. I’d didn’t know you were a literary-minded cop. I keep your gift in a special place. You asked for my autograph, because you knew. You saw a lot of violence, but you always remembered kindness. – love always, Jeanne “Io cadrò perché voglio volare”

  25. Dawn Hankel Gahlman says

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

I have very fond memories of Brian from St. Cats and the few times that I saw him after we graduated. I was just telling someone the story of Brian taking me to the Clash Concert and all of his crazy (but harmless) antics! I know the world will miss his larger than life personality and sense of humor as much as I will. But most of all I remember how caring and sensitive he was – a good friend! My thoughts are with his family. He will be missed.

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

Kris and Barb, we’ve been out of touch for a long time, but I’ve thought of you and Brian often and wondered where your lives have taken you. Brian was without question one of my favorite people in life; a gentle giant who I liked to believe was my personal bodyguard at SCHS. Lots of fun times. I miss you all and my heart is so heavy not to have been able to catch up with him. Take care of each other and your families and we’ll catch up soon.

  27. Carol Alvarez says

There are no words for the sadness, He was a dear dear friend. My Heart goes out to you Lisa and John and Laurine. I know this was not the plan as he Loved you Lisa. I will miss him as he was such a good man…..sharp witted streams of humorous consciousness that many times had my crying from laughing so hard…with just enough uneasiness thrown in there. He was intuitive and had a huge heart. With humor nothing was off limits…..He was honest and dramatic and to the point….. And I Loved him like a brother:) Brain ya big Guido you will sorely be missed:(

  30. Paul Koene says

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

I’ve only been able to see Brian a handful of times since I moved to CA, but he was a great friend. While I lived in Milwaukee, he introduced me to great music, great books, and great food. He so charmed my wife on his first visit to see us in San Francisco that he immediately became one of her favorite friends of mine. I will always remember Brian’s gentle and funny interactions a few yrs later with my then 1 1/2 yr old son. He was the only guy who still called me by my college nickname, “Dog”. I’ll miss hearing that, and more. He was a good man.

  48. Timothy Michael Wheary says

    November 30, -0001 at 12:00 am

    Letter From Heaven-The Final Flight
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard His call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I’ve found that peace at the end of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
 A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things too, I will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savoured much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Author: Unknown Dearest “Red” and “Itch”: Please accept my deepest and most sincere thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I love and respect your entire family.

The funeral service was just beautiful and very warming to everyone including my family. All the pictures they did and the employees were just fantastic. This is one funeral home I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to feel comfortable and to be treated like family. I can’t say enough good things because it was just such a warm welcome. Thank you to Mark and Mike. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
