Chinnie Mae Johnson

Mar 28, 1923 – Jul 27, 2012

Racine – Chinnie Mae Johnson, 89, received the promise of eternal life on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints. She was born on March 28, 1923, to the union of the late Lonnie and Elizabeth Burks in Woodland, Mississippi.

On February 14, 1944, in New Albany, Mississippi, Chinnie met and married Lonzo Johnson.  They shared 48 years together before Lonzo passed away on June 25, 1992.  Their union was blessed with seven children.  She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at a very young age. Mother Johnson was a lifelong member at Little Macedonia – Church of God in Christ – COGIC.  She loved the Lord with all of her heart.

She received her education in Mississippi School System.   She was a resident of Racine for the past sixty-four years. She was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital for thirty years and retired in June 1985.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Charles (Rosalind) Johnson, Billy Johnson, Chris Johnson all of Racine; three daughters, Martha Souter of Milwaukee, Dorothy (Jessie) Robinson, Joyce (Claude) Caldwell, both of Racine; six grandchildren, Wendy Souter-Terry, Ronald Fidel Robinson, Staci L. Kimmons, Chris Johnson Jr., Brittny Johnson, Courtney N. Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Lonnie Maze Burks of Chicago, Illinois.  In addition to her parents, Mother Johnson is preceded in death by her husband, Lonzo Johnson; son, John Louis Johnson; four sisters, Jewel Burks, Louise Burks, both of Chicago, Arteria McKinney, Blondell Weatherall, both of Milwaukee; two brothers, Percy Burks, and Raymond Hill.

A Homegoing celebration will be held at Little Macedonia Church of God in Christ, 1015 Lockwood Avenue, on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at 11:30 am with Pastor Calvin Jackson officiating.  Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family at the church on Wednesday for visitation from 10:30 am until time of service. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The family and friends of Mother Chinnie Mae Johnson acknowledge, with sincere appreciation, your understanding, prayers, and all acts of kindness shown at this time of bereavement.  Also, we would like to extend a very special thanks to all of the staff at Becker-Shoop Nursing Home and Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

After the passing of our loved one, the time came to make the arrangements for his funeral and we couldn’t have asked for anyone more kind and caring as Mark was. He picked up on all the little details and things we held close to our hearts and made the celebration of this wonderful man’s life very special. Even playing taps along with the honor guard, Mark we can’t thank you enough…our heartfelt thanks go out to you and the staff.
Sincerely, THE GENE GRABHER FAMILY

Linda
