Clara E. Zebell

Aug 9, 1920 – Dec 2, 2009

Racine – Clara E. (nee: Anastasio) Zebell, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Becker-Shoop Center on Wednesday, December 2, 2009. A lifetime resident, Clara was born in Racine on August 9, 1920 to the late Frank Paul and Gilda (nee: Marcotti) Anastasio. She graduated from William Horlick High School in 1938. On March 17, 1951 in First Baptist Church – Racine, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Harlow F. Zebell, who preceded her in death on November 13, 2003. With a profound Christian faith, Clara was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church. She was employed as a lead cashier / checker for many, many years at Piggly Wiggly, where she established valued friendships with customers throughout her career. Clara was a phenomenal cook – especially her Italian recipes. She cherished every one of her relationships with family and friends – especially when gathering for a meal, playing a game of cards, or just to socialize. Surviving are her children, Janet (Paul) Jacobson of Madison and Paul (Niki) Zebell of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Kelly (Peter) Venable of Bellingham, WA; Brian (Michelle) Jacobson of Haddon Heights, N.J.; Natalie and Andrea Todd-Zebell of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Daniel and Caleb Venable; sister, Ada Harvill of Walnut Creek, CA; brothers-in-law, George and Russ Zebell of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Kanetzke; Pat, Edward, John and Rudolph Anastasio. A Celebration of Clara’s Life will be held in the funeral home on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 11:00 am with Rev. Holly Anderle officiating. A reception will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 10-11 am. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. In memory of Clara, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association has been suggested. Many thanks to all of Clara’s devoted friends for the love and companionship you gave to Mom throughout her lifetime. She truly loved each one of you!
