Service Details

A private service for Dan’s immediate family will take place at the funeral home.

RACINE – Daniel Joseph Shelby, 58, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

He was born in Racine on December 30 1961, the son of John and Julie (nee: Rothering) Shelby.  He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1980.   Dan received a scholarship to play football at Northeast Missouri State. He later transferred to Western Illinois where he received his undergraduate degree and his MBA.

Dan worked in industrial sales for a number of years but changed his course and decided to work in a field that allowed him to work with his hands; something he found great joy doing.

Dan is survived by his son and daughter, Zachary and Alyssa Shelby; his parents, John and Julie Shelby; his brothers and sisters, Michael (Sue Jarvela) Shelby, Natalie (Ron) Griffin, Patricia (Stephen) Roberts, Thomas (Jean) Shelby, David Shelby, Julie (Scott) Baker, Peter (Mima) Shelby and Mary Sue (Warren) Lester.  He is further survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Leslie Shelby; his nieces and nephews; as well as many grand-nieces and grand-nephews, whom Dan loved treating as his grandchildren.

A private service for Dan’s immediate family will take place at the funeral home.

Dear Shelby Family, We were very saddened today learning that a childhood playmate and family friend has passed. Danny was a family friend his entire life and would, without hesitation, help my parents (Phillip and Anne Christensen) whenever they needed assistance. This is an extremely hard loss, as Danny was LOVED by so many and is the first of his generation to leave us. Know that Danny will be in our thoughts and prayers and our condolence to the entire Shelby Family.

    Sincerely and Sorrowfully Yours,

Testimonials

January 9, 2025

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)
