David Christian Christensen 1956-2023

David Christian Christensen (aka Boog/Uncle Boog) was born in Waukegan, IL on December 18, 1956, to James and Betty (Baumgartner) Christensen and died January15, 2023 in Racine, WI following a lengthy illness.  David was raised and educated in Zion, IL, and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School Class of 1975. After graduation, David worked for Coca-Cola in Niles, IL and was a route helper and then driver mainly covering Great Lakes Naval Training Center.  In 1978, he decided he wanted to become a carpenter and was an apprentice for WM & Associates in Zion.  He became a journeyman and worked for several different contractors in Lake County, both housing and commercial buildings.  He loved doing carpentry and being able to look at the progress at the end of the day.  Unfortunately, he had an injury that eventually forced him into an office setting doing construction estimating…and drove most project managers crazy with his “filing” system, which were piles of papers on his desk.  He eventually had to medically retire in 2010.  David was an avid hunter to include pheasant hunting with his Brittany Spaniels, Shorty and Lady, bow hunting deer and gun hunting deer, coyotes, partridge and whatever else Lake and McHenry Counties in IL and Gordon, WI had to offer.  He also was an avid ice fisherman.  Due to his illness the last 10+ years, he had to give those up.  David married his high school sweetheart, Debrah (Wallace) Christensen May 16, 1981, at Trinity Assembly of God in Zion, IL.  That first winter David decided to take his bride to live in God’s country, in a cabin in the woods, 7 miles out of town, with only cold water in the kitchen and an outhouse, with only a fireplace and wood stove for heat (she was a good sport evidently).  He returned to IL and lived there until 1994 when he went to Racine, WI.  While in Racine, David worked as a construction estimator for Big Buck Lumber/Custom Components, both in Kenosha and Racine.  It was in Racine, where he added his sons to the mix, and spent their growing years enjoying various sports and band activities.  He was a past member of Christ Church United Methodist in Racine where he served on the Trustee Committee and sang bass in the choir.

David is survived by his wife, and sons, Michael of IL, and Jared of WI.  He is further survived by sisters Connie Snyder, Cindy Jensen, Diane Dickman, Janice Booker.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cousins.  David is preceded in death by his parents, James (2010) and Betty (2021), and brother James Christensen (2004).

He will be missed by those he loved.

Testimonials

May 25, 2021

My family wants to thank you and your team for all that you did to walk along side us in my mom’s death and celebration of life. You all did an amazing job with such care, concern of details, and sensitivity to our family. I know my moms body was treated respectfully in your care and that meant the world to us to have confidence in that.
