Deacon Henry "James" Honor

Mar 17, 1953 – Nov 3, 2008

Kenosha- Deacon Henry “James” Honor, 55, lifetime resident of Kenosha and Racine, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, November 3, 2008. James was born in Racine on March 17, 1953 to the late Dewey and Daisy (nee: Kemp) Honor, Sr. He was employed by Twin Disc and Danfoss. With a profound Christian faith, James was a passionate Gospel enthusiast since 1966. Deacon James was an accomplished singer, lead & bass guitarist, songwriter, producer, teacher and recording artist. He proudly authored a piece known by many, “Going On The Other Side”, which totally surpassed his expectations. Deacon James was the founder of Simply Amazing Gospel Productions and TAM Gospel Productions. He was involved in promoting some of the best in Gospel including: The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Shirley Caesar, Lee Williams and Rev. Milton Brunson & The Thompson Community Singers, just to name a few. In the early 80’s, Deacon James had the opportunity to go professionally with Archie Dale & The Tones of Joy. However, as a truly devoted father, he turned it down as his three daughters were still young. Deacon James was an active member of Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where he had been the Superintendent of Sunday School and led many Bible study classes. Without a doubt, praising his Lord and being a “Daddy” to his girls, was his only priority in life. Surviving are his “girls”, Marzelle Honor, Atifa (Dandrius) Robinson and La Tosha Honor; grandchildren, Amari, Jada and Raven Robinson; brothers, Daniel (Easter) Honor, Dewey (Joyce) Honor, Jr., Robert Russell and Willie (Doris) Harris; God-daughter, Joan Hinds; God-son, Leon Pete Walker; special aunt, Mamie Castor; Uncle Ollie Riley; and a host of other dear relatives and friends, including his church family, too numerous to mention by name. A Home Going celebration will be held in the funeral home on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 11 am with Rev. Jessie Summerall officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Viewing will begin in the funeral home on Monday at 9 am. In memory of Deacon James, appreciate God’s gift of Gospel music and share a heartfelt embrace with the ones you love. God Bless.
