Donald William Kannenberg

vet
Jun 13, 1937 – Nov 30, 2011

Racine – Donald W. Kannenberg, 74, passed away at WHF All Saints on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. He was born in Racine on June 13, 1937, son of the late William and Delphi (nee:  Purner) Kannenberg.  After graduating from Horlick High School in 1957, Don served in the US Army until 1960. On November 12, 1965 he was married in Waukegan, Illinois to Betty Jorgensen.

Don worked for the City of Racine Parks Department for 29 years, retiring in 1994. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his honesty and high moral character, and for his extreme generosity. He truly enjoyed helping others, and his tool room was always open if you needed assistance with one project or another. The one thing Don loved most though was spoiling his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Lynn (Brian) Halbur, Gary (Cindy) Hyatt, and Jerry (Donna) Kannenberg all of Racine; 12 grandchildren – Joshua, Brian Jr., Jennifer, Joshaua, Shawna, Tara, Ryan, Destiny, Davis, Justin, Jessica, and Kaylee; and many great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters, Colette (Scott) Netzel of Brookfield, Kathy (Roger) Murray and Joyce Sawasky both of Racine; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Hyatt; brother, Jerry Kannenberg; brother-in-law, Tom Sawasky, and step-mother, Helen Kannenberg.

A memorial service for Don will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011 with Rev. Terry McGugan officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.  A private interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to the American cancer Society have been suggested.

Many thanks are extended to the doctors and staff at All Saints ICU for your acts of kindness and dedication in caring for Don and his family.
