Donvontae E Walton

May 14, 1990 – Jul 7, 2014

Blacksburg, Virginia – Donvontae Emario Walton, 24, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 7, 2014. He was born in Oxford, Mississippi on May 14, 1990, but lived most of his life in Racine. In 2008 he graduated from Case High School; was a 2012 graduate of UW-Whitewater; and received his master’s degree in higher education administration at the University of Kansas in May 2014. Donvontae recently moved to Blacksburg where he was looking forward to his new job as a residential learning coordinator at Virginia Tech.

Donvontae’s life was centered on helping others, beginning when he served as a volunteen at St. Luke’s Hospital. His compassionate and caring manner led him to choose a career where he could mentor young people and assist them in reaching their fullest potential. He was a joy to be around and his smile was contagious! Donvontae truly loved the Lord, and was a faithful member of Greater Mt. Eagle Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, Elem Harwell of Oxford, Mississippi; his and sisters and brothers, Latasha Harwell, Deonte, Sielethia, Sharnetta, Deon, and Shararrius Walton; grandmother, Annie Savage; special nephew, Deontrey Walton; special aunt, Annie Ruth Howell all of Racine; special cousins, Arthel L. Howell of Racine, and Marcelina Kidd of Florida; godparents, Micheal and Francis Randolph of Racine; as well as many other relatives and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Savage; grandfather, Robert Savage; 4 uncles; and his nephew, LaVontae Walton.

Homegoing services will be held at Greater Mt. Eagle Baptist Church (929 State Street) on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Keith T. Evans presiding. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the church from 9:00a.m. – 10:45a.m. Memorials to the family have been suggested during this difficult time.

Special thanks are extended by the family to Donvontae’s friend, Amelia Parchem for her thoughtful consideration, efforts, and assistance.
